In the bloody Warring States period of feudal Japan, many generals fought in an endless struggle for power, but one man proved to be too big a threat - The dark lord Oda Nobunaga. Sanada Yukimura and Date Masamune, two young warriors from different regions who become heated rivals, begin to form an unlikely alliance with the rest of the generals to take down the Devil King.

This set includes all thirteen episodes of the `Sengoku Basara: Samurai Kings' anime's first season. Based on a series of games by Capcom, this series is greatly entertaining to watch. Set during Japans Warring States period, the series sees multiple feudal lords fighting to control the nation. Everything changes though when an even greater threat arises, Oda Nobunaga the Devil King , which forces the various lords to ally against their common foe or fall separately.

`Sengoku Basara' is a greatly entertaining series with some brilliantly over the top battles, likable characters and an interesting plot. The animation is good and the English dub is brilliantly fun and hammy. I haven't played any of the games that this series is based on but after watching this anime I will definitely be looking into them. `Sengoku Basara' is probably not the best anime series around but it is a fun series that I would recommend to any anime fan.

OK so I'll keep this short and sweet:

Action - Very good fights that flows really nicely and frankly is just awesome!

Characters - Most of the characters are really likable, no annoying pre shippuden Naruto types running about,
you'll find yourself even caring for some of the villains in this show.

Plot - This show is very solid as far as the plot goes, however it only really takes you from A - B, its not a
Death Note, Code Geass, Gundam style plot with twists and turns, for the most part its a case of heres the
big bad guy, lets unite the nations and take him down, the straight forward plot does work well however
don't get me wrong but that is the only reason i gave this 4/5 and not 5/5 as for me a 5/5 show needs to
kick me round the face with a memorable plot twist or something.

Okay let's get this out of the way to start with. If you are expecting some kind of historical drama which is 100% true to history, effectively a documentary...go somewhere else (like a library).

Devil Kings Basara (Sengoku Basara in Japan) is a tale of historical lords and generals facing one another on the battlefield for the prize of controlling the land of the rising sun.

Thus far, there has been a stalemate between many of these nations, with ambitions being thwarted again and again in the race to claim the capital. But a new and powerful force has arrived- the Oda clan, headed by arguably anime's evilest evil guy, Nobunaga Oda, owner of western guns and a killer moustache. Warriors such as headstrong Sanada Yukimura of the Takeda army (reds) and Date Masamune of the Date army (blues) although with a variety of other memorable leaders, must band together and crush the greater threat!

Over-the-top battle sequences, cheesy catch phrases and a fast-paced storyline (a reasonable length at 12 episodes plus 1 special), this is a show that could be happily consumed in a weekend with friends!

I watched Sengoku Basara and must say I like it.

Although it seems like an average good versus evil thing, it is actually based on real events.
I doubt that the line of history is followed correctly, but some of the characters and locations really existed. So if you are interested in Japanese history, you may recognise certain things.

Well, all the stereotypes are running around again. But all the good guys are pretty like-able.
The bad guys are really bad. People who you'll love to hate.

In short, General Nobunaga Oda wants to rule Japan under one sword(his own)by all means necessary.
Basically this is what all the other generals want but not at all cost.
People are trying to unite the other generals under one flag to stop Oda. Which is not so easy because of individual rivalry and common interest. Also, some of the generals found it better to make a deal with Oda first. By the time they find their trust betrayed, their armies are almost destroyed. Eventually ofcourse the leftovers of the armies form 1 army to go and defeat Oda.
Will they succeed?

It is fun, colourful and full of action. I recommend this to any anime fan.
I am also interested in the games now.

This is very good but as the title shows i think it was rather short.

The animation is good, music is good and the story line is fair boarderline good.
I would recommend it and here's hoping for another season.

On the extras though they are in Japanese with English subs which annoyed me a bit as i would of thought that they would be in English, but it's still worth buying in my opinion.

There's no other word to discribe this anime other than amazing and that doesn't stretch far enough! The battles are fantastic and leave you in suspence at every moment. Filled with lots of laughs, tear jerking moments, historical smurai fights and events and general over the top fighting scenes, sengoku basara is definetly one of the best animes there is!

Fantastic anime series that really bringss life to the sengoku period. My nephew and friends are already imitating the Yukimura/Shigen shouting and punching scenes...
