Product Description

Product Description

Crime novelist and detective Paul Temple made his first appearance on BBC Radio in 1938. He inhabited a sophisticated world of chilled cocktails and fast cars, where the women were chic and the men wore cravats - a world where Sir Graham Forbes, of Scotland Yard, usually needed Temple's help with his latest tricky case. In this, the very first novel featuring the smooth sleuth, read by Anthony Head, a wave of mysterious robberies is sweeping the country, and fifty thousand pounds' worth of diamonds has been stolen in six months. During the fourth raid, a night watchman is attacked with chloroform, and just manages to gasp out 'The Green Finger' before he dies. Chief Inspector Dale has heard the enigmatic phrase before: it was the last utterance of a drowning man wanted in connection with another robbery. But with no further leads, the police are baffled. The cry goes out in the popular press: "Send for Paul Temple"!

This is the first time Paul meets Steve, and she remains true to the character throughout the series. As Paul is a batchelor at the start of this story it sets up the detective partnership for all the rest.An ingenious plot, but with a few errors in time and distance, however these hardly matter. and the story is very enjoyable.

I have now bought a few of these CDs and they have taken me all over the area as I travel, playing these on my car Cd player. The stories are so enjoyabe tha I have been known to make diversions in order to complete a chapter or book! This CD was no exception.

Paul Temple was originally created as an early post war writer/detective; however, like the storis created by Agatha Christie, these have not really suffered from the passing of time, and have been brought fully alive by the storytelling skills of Anthony Head; - and one of the real draws of this CD is that he portrays the story so well, pulling you into the story and bringing the characters alive.

Actually the first of the Paul and Steve Temple stories (they meet during this one - so if you want to know how they 'get together', this CD is a must!), the plot is great - but listen out for the odd 'oddity' - such as the clothes worn by Steve and Paul as they ecplore an underground passage!

Send for Paul Temple, hear and enjoy!
