While Fridge's debut album is less stylistically coherent than their more recent offerings, it is arguably their best to date. Garage rock workouts such as 'Cassette' sit uneasily alongside the metronomic electronica of 'Furniture Boy' and 'Motorbus', but adhering to convention is clearly not a part of Fridge's creative process, and when these disperate genres are successfully combined the result is glorious - blissfull, chilled out slices of sunlight such as 'Low Fat Diet' and 'Curdle'. In short, 'Semaphore', while lacking appeal for traditionalists, will reward the perseverent listerner who's looking for something a little bit special.

Tired of the typical musical template ? 17 Jan. 2013
By Jeffery S Brown - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Tired of the typical musical template ? Semaphore is really refreshing, creativity abounds without being too self indulgent. Smartly there is enough space for the listener to find a good place in this album.

Cold cuts 30 July 2009
By IRate - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
2 1/2

The post-rock group's sophomore output nestles a comfortable midground between the pummeling straightforwardness of Mogwai and the production aesthetics of Tortoise, though manages to sound simultaneously vacant and indulgent by providing a sound that is heavy on atmosphere and light on structure, ultimately exposing its simplicities in constant repetition.
