Product Description

Nearly everyone within a company is involved in selling at one level or another. Yet, the majority of those people are not professional frontline salespeople - they have never received any training in selling or in dealing with customers. As a result, opportunities are missed and, worse, you may even have wrecked the relationship with the customer for the long term. Written in a quick-read and practical way, this book presents a set of simple, basic skills for selling, aimed exclusively at those people who have never been trained in the art of selling. Based on the successful courses which the author has been running for over 10 years for beginners in sales, "Selling Skills for the Complete Amateur" is intended to enable anyone to make a sound contribution to the overall sales process.

5.0 out of 5 stars Selling Skills for Complete Amateurs 17 Jun 2008
Format:Paperback
This book is a breath of fresh air. It provides practical techniques that just about anyone going into selling can use straightaway. I really liked the style of his writing, both witty and persuasive. The examples and stories that he uses makes it easy to understand and extremely memorable. As a Managing Director, I have never had any real sales training and, having read this book, I can see exactly where I've been going wrong now. It made me realise that even I need to know the basics of how to sell. I would like to meet the author in person and find out what he can do for my company.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ripper 9 Sep 2010

I remember Bob Etherington from the days when I worked on the audit team at Reuters, and, in the words of Brucie, hasn't he done well, my loves!

This is an excellent book for a number of reasons. Firstly, it is clear in its advice. Secondly, that advice is sound at the fundamental level. Thirdly, the author explains why it is fundamentally sound (yes, he's selling to us even after we've bought). Fourthly, he gets to the point without too many of the usual long war stories (we'll allow him a few, he's a salesman....). The last point is important because I recommend this book for dipping back into frequently, especially the SWOT section.

Good stuff.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 22 July 2010

The only issue with this book is that people who THINK they are salespeople probably won't buy it. They should - all you need to know about selling is in this book. It ain't rocket science and Etherington's style makes it dead easy to take in. What a pity he can't make the average salesperson read and absorb this little gem.

People ask me why I would promote other people's books. I do it because I care for readers. But I only promote books that offer the reader value. I'm a voracious reader myself.I know that you need to read many books to form the values and opinions that can help you. This book is a confidence boost for people who fear selling. Enjoy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gotta Love Bob! 17 May 2013

I bought Bob Etherington's Cold Calling for Chickens, and loved it so much I bought this title, Presentation Skills for Quivering Wrecks and Negotiating Skills for Virgins.

They are all hugely enjoyable to read, which greatly helps in getting the key points across.

Highly recommended.
