5.0 out of 5 stars The timeless classic on the subject, 3 Sep 2001
I am an executive coach and this is one of my staple reference books which I often give to coachees to read.

This book has been around since the 1920's and is STILL the classic book on public speaking. It covers topics such as developing self-confidence, how to prepare for a speech or presentation, how to interest your audience, how to open and close a talk and how to develop stage presence.

3.0 out of 5 stars Whilst very good - seems only to be an update of a previous book, 19 Mar 2009

Although I had already read 90% of the content by reading Carneige's other books on public speaking....

Very useful book! So easy to read and a great follow up to 'how to win friends and influence people'. Many criticise Carnegie's writing style and say he could just publish a list of do's and dont's. I believe that lists are ok but do not allow a deeper understanding of the message! The examples Carnegie uses are timeless and you can mirror the efforts in everyday conversations, meetings and e-mail not only in public speach making. Would recommend to anybody!

Written in the 40's this book is as true today as it was then. i can tell that it is good, because the author uses his own rules to write this book and it is interesting & accessible. PLEASE buy it. it is really really good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth every pence spent, my children would read this
This was a light brezzy read. I read this in one evening and the message stuck. I highly recommend this book for anyone who sees themselves speaking to crowds of people. Read more
