Product Description

If you find turning the compost heap or the contents of the compost bin back-breaking work then the Compost Aerator could come in useful. The more often the compost heap is turned, well mixed and aerated the quicker it breaks down into nutrient rich material that can be returned to the ground, but using a garden fork for the job is not usually the best way. Designed for the purpose, simple and effective to use, the aerator is plunged into the compost to penetrate quickly as the blades at the base are hinged to fold back, but when lifted out they grip and pull up the compost. It is also an easy way to check that the compost process is working without having to empty the bin so that an accelerator can be added if it is too slow, or water if it is too dry.

3.0 out of 5 stars It works 17 Jan 2012
I bought one of these compost aerators (not from this outlet) in April 2008. I was sceptical but found it to be very successful - as long as the compost had started to rot down a bit - and not TOO hard work. Also, it's not messy, as the compost stays in the bin. However, it has just broken now after getting on for 4 yrs (one of the 'wings' has disappeared in the compost).

5.0 out of 5 stars Piece of cake 23 Jan 2014

This is great compared to my old two handed on. I use this in the dalek type bins and as this is a one handed operation I do not catch knuckles on the bin side. The wings fold out very easily and it does the job very well.

But what a great tool for the job in hand.

Regularly inspect the end blades, in case you're being a little heavy handed or your compost is of a heavy nature.
