Product Description

Product Description
This collection of 100 of O Henry's finest stories is a showcase for the sheer variety of one of America's best and best-loved short story writers. The variety of the stories is amazing; O Henry is as at home describing life south of the Rio Grande as he is chronicling the activities and concerns of 'the four million' ordinary citizens who inhabited turn-of-the-century New York. They are marked by coincidence and surprise endings as well as the compassion and high humour that have made O Henry's stories popular for the last century.

5.0 out of 5 stars If one like surprises of Life then this is a Nice surprise, 27 Sep 2000
By A Customer
Even if many stories reflect the 1910's America the very fact that it's about human values, relations and "Surprises", it's even fresh in 2000's. Many stories, which we heard as short quickies are here by this great author. This a must to have for those who want some thing to tingle there heart, emotions and head.

5.0 out of 5 stars 1900's Damon Runyon, 13 Aug 2004
By Ken "bletchley_badger" (Bletchley, Bucks) - See all my reviews
I bought this book on impulse and it has only dissapointed me in one respect. I skipped the introduction and jumped straight to the stories. I thought I was being clever when I compared it to Runyon's stories of 4 decades later. When I went back to read the introduction, the comparison had made there already. In all other respects I cannot fault the book.

The stories are very short. They are generally gentle, charming stories by someone who obviously had a great sympathy for the people he was describing.

I highly recommend it to anyone.
