Product Description

Product Description

This selection gives equal weight to the two aspects of Robert Burns's reputation, as a lyricist and as a much-loved Scottish poet. Placing works in probable order of composition, it includes lyrics to his most well known songs, such as the nostalgic Auld Lang Syne, the romantic A Red, Red Rose, and the patriotic Scots What Hae. As a poet, Burns wrote with deceptive simplicity and imaginative sympathy, and demonstrated enormous range - from comic dramatic monologues such as Holy Willie's Prayer, which mocks hypocrisy, to narratives including the celebrated Tam O' Shanter, about the ghostly visions of a drunk.

Book Description

Cambridge Literature is a series of literary texts edited for study by students aged 14-18 in English-speaking classrooms. It includes novels, poetry, short stories, and essays. The series is extensive and open-ended, and provides school students with a range of edited texts taken from a wide geographical spread. It includes writing in English from various genres and differing times. Robert Burns: Selected Poems is edited by Kenneth Brown, Faculty of Education, University of Strathclyde. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

The one star is for the kindle edition of this work; it is utterly appalling for something that costs almost £7. I have yet to find a well formatted Kindle edition of the work of Robert Burns, so for the moment I recommend you stick with an actual book and that the book you stick with should be 'Robert Burns, The Complete Poetical Works' edited by by James A Mackay and published by Alloway publishing.

The poems are a work of genius, the formatting is the work of an imbecile.

Ideal to have in backpack at University. Contains all the classic poems and songs Burns is known for. The book is light and compact and very good value for money.

Bought this book when learning a couple of pieces for a Burns Night and was soon struck by the sheer genius of the baird to the point had trouble putting it down even after pieces learned and performed.

What is more at a price which means you really don't have to think twice, highly recommended.
