Product Description

Product Description

Christina Rossetti is widely regarded as the most considerable woman poet in England before the twentieth century. No reading of nineteenth century poetry can be complete without attention to this prolific and popular poet. Rosetti's inner life dominates her poetry, exploring loss and unattainable hope. Her divine poems have a freshness and toughness of thought, while many of her love poems are erotic, and as often express love for women as for men. The varied threads of Rossetti's concerns are drawn together in what is perhaps her greatest poem, the strange and ambiguous 'Goblin Market.304'.

If like me,you class Christina Rossetti's work at the pinacle of literary genius then this publication will enthral you. A volume which is very reasonably priced, contains a useful introduction and bibliography is a must for your bookshelf.

Some of the well-known poems are very beautiful but, having read titles completely new to me, I think Rossetti was a very sad and troubled woman. Good book to dip into from time to time - too much and it become's a bit depressing.

A Reading Of "A Year's Windfalls" 11 Sep 2008

This seems to me Rossetti at her best, for reasons I explain in the video. She is quite good at describing the effects of the natural world on her inner life. - Her devotional poems, which constitute the greater part of this volume, unfortunately fall flat as poems if one can't hear the music of the hymns to which many of them have been set.
