Firstly, the book is very rich in material - it six stories, each recorded on a supplementary MP3. Then, it is the first book I've seen which has a special screen. With its help you can cover pinin, so you can chose to read characters only.

These two reader of Chinese are excellent little books. They are cheap but dont be fooled by the price, the quality of the books are top class. They are sturdy and well bound books with good fonts. The books will suit all learners of chinese of intermediate level. I had been looking for ages for books of this level but glad i came across these two gems. A must buy for all serious students of Chinese.

A book you can read again and again.

I have 2 of these books now, the series would be faultless if they would just do away with the pinyin, no student serious enough to read text should be relying on pinyin! You do get a grid that fits the page so only the hanzi can be seen but it definitely makes reading more of a chore.

The only complaint I really have with this book is the insert that comes with it. It's supposed to cover the pinyin while you read so that you can focus on the characters, but the lines are out-of-sync with what's written. It might be worth it to make your own. The stories and other contents on the other hand are great. They're well written so that you can follow along with the characters you know, and the stories are engaging. Highly recommended if you're looking to improve your reading and sentence structure in general.

This series of books is really useful for reading and listening to Chinese. The stories in this book are fairly easy to follow, if you have a little bit of Chinese. Unfortunately, it doesn't have a vocabulary in the back, unlike the book 3.
