I enjoyed this book regardless of the reviews. It's not your usual romance novel and I would be inclined to say that it's actually a very realistic outlook on MC life, in all terms from the laws they do or don't follow, the women, drugs, alcohol, and their business affairs. Obviously the love story between Winter and Braxxon is different due to her background, their relationship runs a million miles a minute and things go from bad to worse. This story covers some very serious issues from cheating, rape, revenge and murder again most things I would expect to see in a realistic MC story. The story, plot and writing are good, some grammatical errors but nothing too drastic. The characters are realistic in reference to the club and what part they all play. The language is explicit along with all sexual content. The scenes provide some really serious angst in very descriptive detail. Again I stress that if you have any knowledge of what an MC is then you shouldn't be shocked by this book and if you have trouble with explicit sex, language, and the use of drugs then don't read this. Overall I enjoyed this story and was not shocked by its content but I've read an abundance of explicit novels, and knew from the authors warning that there would be some graphic scenes. I would recommend if you enjoy hard, hot criminal types being the heroes, graphic sex, and realistic MC novels.
God almighty! I just couldn't carry on with this! And no, it wasn't the taboo subjects of murder, rape, violence and drug use that put me off (he more taboo, the better, as far as I'm concerned!). It was the main heroine, Winter (aka Angel). She was such a bitch, and so judgmental, that I found it impossible to like her, let alone care about anything that happened to her.
Winter and her friend Lana are strippers, and end up going to Breakneck MC to perform for the president, Braxxon. So she's a stripper, fair enough, each to their own. But the way she looks down on/speaks about the other women who service the MC members is disgusting! She ends up having unprotected sex with Braxxon the morning after meeting him, yet all the other women are somehow beneath her!
Things snowball way too fast, with Braxxon laying the club on the line to protect her. All too soon, Winter and Braxxon are somehow serious, despite her catching him getting oral sex from one of the "muffle bunnies". Nice guy! I would have loved things to have developed more slowly, and for some chemistry to develop, of which there was none.
These were two horrible people, and they deserved each other. At 45% I feel like I gave this book a fair chance, but it wasn't for me.
Nasty characters aside, I enjoyed the general storyline (it had so much potential), writing style and dual POV's, hence the two stars.
OMG I don't even know where to start on this one. I only picked it up on the off chance after seeing it being talked about on a social network site.
This book has to be one of my best buys so far!
This is a dark erotic biker book at its best! I managed to read this book in around 3 hours and I haven't been able to pick up another book since. I have a serious book hangover!
Winter is the daughter of a prominent Russian mobster MC president, who has gone on the run from everything she was brought up in. She has lived through loss and kept going. Her strength of character through this book and the way she deals with the situations that she finds herself have you gripped in this book.
Braxxon is the MC president of the Breakneck MC Club and is all alpha biker male. Having women where ever and whenever.
I love the way these two are screwed up and their relationship is screwed up but they are screwed up together and they both accept this fact. I love how honest Crystal has made Braxxon, his emotions in parts of the book are palpable and you really do experience his feelings with him. It's the same with Winter.
I found myself sat there reading with my fingers crossed for these two characters. I don't think I've ever wished two fictional characters to have a HEA as much as I did these two.
I absolutely loved this book and was taken on a dark emotional ride that had me living the life of this fictional world.
I can't wait for book #2 in the series. I'm off to see what else I can read of Crystal Spears.
Masses of moments in Brax's and Winter's story that have you gripping the seat of your pants, some bits were far-fetched but who cares its shock and awe deliverance was sometimes hard to swallow but actually succeeded in bringing about a freaking good badass biker book.
One thing for certain this certainly is a great delve into the MC lifestyle and like I said above one of the harsher portrayals out there at the moment and there is a fair few bikers books around now. Funny thing is the book cover in no way makes you ready for the drugs/shootings/sexual abuse and general debauchery that your about to read so I warn you (just like Crystal does and probably what enticed me most to read it) that it is not worth picking up this book to then just diss it because you can't handle it. You have been warned what it contains and that it explodes on you with no cautious smoothing over, the no holds barred deliverance is what makes this book so good. Definitely a keeper and I will definitely be reading more of the Breakneck series and I hope we don't have to wait long for the next book and I sincerely hope it is as good as this one.
