I own a number of Seiko watches and am a big fan of their range in general; particularly the kinetic and premier models.

Having bought this one however, I was saddened to realise that in the flesh (or on the wrist), it has the misfortune to bear a resemblance to something which may be seen worn by one's son's chavvy mate who possibly won it from a "grabber" machine at Skegness or similar.

Suffice to say I will be looking to befriend someone of sufficiently poor taste in time for Xmas so I can recycle it by giving it them as a present. Fortunate that I kept the box and manual etc. intact eh?

Solid, stylish watch - great value 19 Dec 2012
By Douglas E. Robison - Published on
I just received this watch from Amazon. As usual, Amazon delivered the product very promptly. I have extensively researched dive watches over the years, have owned several different types and brands, and currently own both a Tag Heuer Aquaracer automatic and a Citizen Courageous solar quartz. I wanted to add a Seiko Kinetic Diver to my small collection, and there are only two models to choose from. I chose this Sportura model because it is a new product in the Seiko line, and I like the styling better. Upon receiving it, the quality is very evident. There is a solid heft to it, but it is not too big or bulky at all. The dial and lume are very attractive, and the bezel moves like silk. The screw down crown and power reserve button tighten down very securely, and feel extremely watertight. My only complaint, and it is minor, is that the rubber strap is a bit too long for my relatively small wrists (7.5 inch diameter), leaving an about a 1/2 inch loose end on my outer wrist. However, the band is very comfortable and the watch sits perfectly on my wrist without shifting around. Seiko divers have a reputation for extreme durability, and the kinetic mechanism is known to be very accurate and last a decade or more before any maintenance is required. All this for under $300. I would highly recommend this product to those who want a real dive watch that is also stylish, all at a very reasonable price.
Kinetic Means 5 Years --which makes it okay 11 Mar 2014

I was little surprised to discover after 5 years I needed a capacitor replacement for this watch. The watch stores a electrical charge generated by movement in a battery ("capacitor") which eventually fails to hold a charge. (Kinetic is not a mechanical/spring automatic watch). You can search Seiko watch capacitor to see the replacement part which looks just like a normal watch battery. The difference is the cost to have it replaced. One watch shop quoted me $90 another $75. I have heard of the capacitor lasting up to 10 years with diminished performance. The guy at the shop said he had seen a lot of them at 5. The Citizen solar claims theirs will last 5-10.

This is a very large thick cased watch and feels very expensive. On a thin wrist the polyurethane band will allow the watch to rotate unless you buckle it very tightly. (The band was the first thing I replaced with a Sport Strap). As a diver it is true waterproof which these days is a rarity.
Beautiful but large, bulky and not very comfortable 16 Jan 2014

I loved the look and quality build of this watch. But even on my 7.5 inch wrist (attached to a 6'5" frame) it still felt large. The band was also not very comfortable due to its rigidness, however I read that they tend to become more pliable after some time of wearing. The chapter ring did not line up with the marks perfectly which bothered me. The lume of both the hand and face were great.

I returned this watch for a Seiko skx173 (automatic vs the kinetic ska511) instead and I'm in love.

Great quality watch for a affordable price 3 July 2013

A very masculine dive watch from seiko with a quartz accuracy. Something quite rare to find in seiko divers. Add a sapphire crystal with AR coating on that and this watch almost seems like a steal at the price.

Everything from the watch screams quality with the bezel clicks to the watch strap.

Prospective buyers do note that this watch has a slightly large lug to lug length at 55mm. Watch strap is also pretty long so if you have a small wrist you might have an unsightly tail hanging out. If you are really fussy about the lume, you'll notice that the dial markets don't shine as brightly as the hands on initial exposer to a charge but subsequently the brightness levels seem even out.

Watch came in good condition by the vendor CDI watches and were quick to respond to issues with my warranty.

Giving this 4 stars because as a dive watch the dial lume doesn't stand up to that of the monster or the franken monster , although it is still decent amongst the rest of the conpetish.
