Bought this to replace a disappointing watch that i bought, thinking if you pay a bit more then you get a better watch, my dad bought one of its predecessors in the 60's and apart from a new strap it keeps on ticking. This watch is spot on it looks smart, comfortable to wear and is just quality. I wholly recommend it the self winding mechanism is so easy to use, the only thing i have had to do is make sure i wear it everyday or give it a shake or two everyday to keep the watch wound up but its what the watch is supposed to do and be used for.
the black canvas strap is smart and comfortable and you get the satisfaction of seiko quality and no batteries.

I've been a fan of automatic watches ever since I bought a beautiful Rotary Skeleton, however I needed something a little less fancy. The Seiko 5 fits that bill nicely, it's a smart watch and very quiet.
Although I knew the dimensions when I bought the watch, I was a little surprised by the small size and the comparative thickness. Also considering this is a 'military style' watch it should be more than just splash proof!
Despite those minor issues I'm very pleased with what is clearly a quality watch.

Was due for a new watch - fancied an automatic - and selected this one. First impression was that it is a good looking watch - quite descrete with black band and dark face.
Timekeeping seems quite good. It drifts a little - but +/- less than 1 minute over a few weeks is not a problem for me. (Mine seems a little fast). Watch does not "stop" when adjusting which is slightly annoying when setting. (Book says it is supposed to when crown pulled out fully).
There is barely a ticking sound from it.
Seeing the workings from the back is nice too.
This model is "water resistant" which - according to the book is NOT water resistant. It loses a star here.

I own an old Seiko automatic but it is quite scratched and doesn't keep going for long when not worn. I also have a cheapish Cassio radio controlled digital watch but it has stopped working properly after two years. The smarter titanium quartz keeps good time but doesn't show the day and is not for everyday use. This new Seiko has the day / date and, importantly, it does not stop when not worn for some time. I'm not sure why the hour numbers are less prominent and inside the minute numbers but it makes no difference when reading the time. It is much lighter and a bit smaller than my old Seiko and perfect for everyday use. I paid about £73 when the one with a green strap was costing a LOT more and I note that they are now the same price. So, to sum up, no batteries (and I think watches tend to go wrong when fiddled about with?) but a little less accurate time keeping than a quartz watch.

Had this for a couple of weeks now and am delighted with it.
The main draw is the fact that it's automatic. That means a sweeping second hand (as opposed to the ticking of a quartz) watch, and a clear back so you can see the various cogs and mainspring spinning around. Sounds geeky, but there is a certain "something" about an auto watch. You won't get the accuracy of quartz and the power reserve is only about a day but that isn't the point. It's about the movement of your wrist powering a watch accurate to within a few seconds a day.
It is quite small by today's standards, but looks smart, quite suitable for the office. Nice clear face and powerful lume.
The "5" refers to the five attributes of the watch: water resistant, automatic, shockproof, day/date display (in French as well as you want!) and a diaflex (unbreakable) mainspring.
Simple and robust it should last for years. For the price it's an absolute bargain.

Ordered this for £58 and I'm very pleased with it. A good looking watch.
Heavier than I'm used to (compared with my usual titanium Tissot), but
not overly. Clean bright face. Shame it isn't more water resistant than it
is, 30m (3bar) only I believe, which means damp/rain only, no swimming.
