Amazon.co.uk Review

Most of us remember waging monumental battles and planning out complicated rescues with toy planes, boats and such in our youth. Now you can do the same, virtually, in Sega's Toy Commander. The premise is straight from a six-year-old's dream: some of your toys have gone bad and are rampaging through eight rooms in your intricately detailed home. It's up to you to take command of the loyal toys and lead them through 50 individual missions to put a stop to the plastic menace.

The progressively more difficult missions, consisting of action sorties such as rescuing toy steamboats from malicious submarines, or strategic ones like transporting eggs into a pot of boiling water, are anything but a tea party. All missions fit comfortably within the game's storyline and can be seriously challenging. The sense of scale, as you commandeer the game's 35 vehicles, is true to the look of an ordinary room to a tiny toy. Fun and offering a surprising amount of depth, Toy Commander is a nostalgic, innovative and entertaining romp. --Sajed Ahmed

Pros:

  • Four-player split-screen death match mode, using any of the 35 vehicles in one of the eight rooms
  • All the vehicles look and handle very differently, adding to the gameplay
  • Impressive detail and interactivity in the game's environments
  • Varied missions include war-like action, racing and strategy elements
Cons:
  • Tedious mission goals could prove frustrating

What an amazing game, what with its amazing graphics and addictive gameplay, no wonder Toy Commander is still going strong today. Toy Commander was one of the launch titles for the dreamcast a good couple of years ago, and has never ceased to amaze all dedicated dreamcast gamers. the first thing you will notice about the game is its sheer scale of the surroundings, the developers of this game must have taken ages to design the enviroments. the gameplay also tingles the tastebuds of your average gamer, by making the genre a action strategy racing simulation shoot em'up all in one, which is pure mind blowing considering the fact your only about 1 inch tall in Toy Commander. The true beauty of this game is of course that all gaming abilitys are welcome in Toy Commander. It dosen't matter if your a beginner or supreme champion of the world, Toy Commander is a game that will never come close to being boring. Now if you will excuse me, there is a patrol of teddy bears invading the jam jar which have to be stopped. Merry gaming to all. :-)

Fun:
This is a terrific game. I purchased it to replace a previous disc which became damaged. It has lots of modules allowing the gamer to drive, fly and shoot. It is great for adults and kids alike. I have played many games but rate this the finest game available on any platform! You won't be disappointed if you purchase this.

Fun:
i bought a dreamcast after my ps3 blew up as i missed the old retro style games that have the fun element that you dont find anymore with all these first person shooters that seam to be the only games you can get these days.

toy commander is great. it falls into that catagory of just one more go and is a blast with your mates. and the visuals considering this is over 10 years old are still good by todays standards. on the whole a great piece of retro gaming.
