Thor: The Video Game will delve deep into the heroic tales of the Thor universe. Eisner Award-winning writer and lead Thor comic book author Matt Fraction brings authenticity to the narrative as a story consultant, and elevates the story beyond the comic and movie universe throughout the video game. Players will take on an array of ancient enemies and beasts from the many worlds of Norse mythology by using different battle strategies and elemental powers. The sacred Mjolnir, Thor’s legendary hammer, will allow players to command the powers of the storm: wind, thunder and lightning. By earning Valor in combat throughout the game, players will also be able to select from a wider range of abilities, acquire new attacks, powers and upgrades. This game has been well and truly trashed in reviews worldwide, a reputation which, I feel, is unwarranted. I played the game not expecting much, but I found a fun time-waster with some satisfying elemental powers and a decent combo system.
Yes, the graphics are not really the best this generation has to offer, but they are not ps2 quality, or even wii quality, they're early 360 at worst. The game is a decent length too (a rarity for the modern action game) and has enough variety to keep things interesting. Yes, it's almost all combat, but there is a strategy here and anyone claiming you can button mash through the game was giving themselves a really tough time. Each enemy is susceptible to different elements and there's a decent upgrade system that comes in to play too.
Overall, Thor is not a triple-A title, but it is a fun way to kill a few hours and if you liked the movie, you should have some fun here.

This game is a horrendous mish-mash of poor graphics and the lousiest game-film tie-in I have ever seen. It's obvious that SEGA rushed this shame to the market in time for the release of the film. Thor handles like a bathtub on wheels; he's slow, ungainly and at times, downright unresponsive. The enemies, quite surprisingly, are adroit and agile. They will sometimes have the ability to "freeze" Thor and bash him to death (when I say freeze, I mean the game decides that you've had enough and just stops you in the middle of a level and commences with the brutality).
The graphics are absolutely rubbish. God of War II was rendered much more spectacularly (and that was on the PS2!). I packed this atrocity in after only 2 hours of play. Boss fights are near impossible, in that they require you to be psychic; one challenge literally gave me 1 second to see a tiny, yellow button prompt. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for difficult games. The challenge is half the fun, but Thor makes it downright impossible to feel challenged. All you feel is beat-down and conned by SEGA.
I'd give this game a half-star, but sadly, Amazon doesn't let me do that. Avoid like the plague and wait till a proper game is released. SEGA, you should be ashamed of this monstrosity.
