Manufacturer's Description

Stormrise is a post apocalyptic real-time strategy game from Creative Assembly, the makers of Medieval II: Total War. Two warring factions arise from the rubble: the Echelon, a technologically advanced race that endured the planet's fallout by way of self-induced hibernation, and the Sai, a tribal society that adapted to the new apocalyptic environment and evolved over time. Players can command units in the air, across rooftops, on the earth's surface and even underground; this unique idea of "verticality" introduces multiple layers of gameplay that must be mastered for strategic advantage. The experience is heightened by a simple yet effective control system tailored specifically for consoles, which allows easy unit selection, rapid navigation and precise deployment.

Product Description

Experience the rush of battle in ways no other real-time strategy game has ever offered. Stormrise is the first truly 3D, next-gen RTS that, via the 3rd person camera perspective, puts you directly in the action. No other RTS game combines this level of immersion and emotional intensity with the scale and depth of a strategy game. Designed for next generation consoles, Stormrise puts you on the frontlines of battle as the heroic leader of your troops, allowing you to lead from the front in the world's most immersive RTS.

Earth's protective atmosphere has been stripped away by a catastrophic event centuries ago. In a bleak and barren landscape, the planet's inhabitants have had to adapt radically in order to survive, resulting in the creation of two distinctly different races; the Echelon and the Sai. With both factions constantly battling for supremacy, the rebuilt civilisation is on the brink of another catastrophe...

  • Lead from the front. Control units and issue commands while viewing the battle from the 3rd-person POV of any unit on the battlefield. The 3rd-person camera offers unprecedented immersion in the game world and presents warfare in a more visceral, emotional, and epic manner than ever before.
  • The first fully 3D RTS. Gone are the flat levels of traditional strategy games. Engage in warfare on battlefields comprised of sprawling cities and towering skyscrapers that let you play in a truly 3D environment.
  • Revolutionary console RTS features. Groundbreaking control method for quick and intuitive controls. The 'Tactical Playbook' gives players all the strategic choice they get from a traditional RTS, but with the simplicity and accessibility of a playbook.
  • Advanced multiplayer features. Multiplayer modes feature "join anytime" functionality, previously only seen in first-person shooters and a breakthrough for console strategy titles.

Fun:
Please note this is a PC review perspective
This game has the most backward control system ever attempted for an RTS. I know it's supposed to be a console game only ported but the fact that it's supposed to play in a fast passed fashion you really need to spend the hours getting good at it to be able to handle the controls. The whole feel of the controls also reminds of a 3rd person action game with a few squad based elements thrown in.
Also the fact that the game is DX10 vista only puts it out of reach. Give this game a pass unless you are really desperate for modern mech action.

PLEASE NOTE: PC REVIEW ALL GOOD AND BAD POINTS MAY BE DIFFERENT ON CONSOLE

Nice: Interesting concept for game which tackles multi-level play well.
Poor: Crashes requiring hard reset. During intro to first game lvl, (welcome to the game!), and twice so far during the second game lvl.

Nice: Your 1st commander and sub-commander are in big mechs!
Poor: They are non-repairable and if either die, game over.
EDIT: Your commanders do begin to regenerate later in the game if you can get past dying/crashing frustration.

Nice: Whip-select(TM) is a fast method of switching units
Poor: Useless if you have any groups or units in a line as you inevitably end up scooting across the battlefield when you are 1mm off a selection. Makes leap-frogging advances and two pronged attacks difficult or impossible depending on the terrain/map layout.

Nice: Indirect order can be used to move units around.
Poor: Awkward to use as mouselook is not disabled so screen and perspective of units you are trying to select is constantly changing.

EDIT
Nice: Says it autosaves your position
Poor: Autosave does not work so spent frustrating time going back to beginning of levels after death/crash. This was made worse by the fact that many in-game tutorial speeches can't be skipped.
MANUAL SAVE DOES WORK

Looks like it will be a good game once crashes are sorted out (EDIT: As others have mentioned, support has been cancelled before bugs are fixed. AVOID at any price) and control issues may simply take getting used to but it has moved from the category of 'fun' to 'chore' for me so I'll try again later. Maybe when a patch comes out...

This game is NOT like any other RTS. Your point of view is set for line of sight so you do not get the God camera view. You only get to see what your units can see, unlike the usual see everything in the area even if it's hiding behind a wall.
The controls are not as bad as a lot of people make out. You cannot use the pointer to select a unit but the selection method is acceptable as long as you use CTRL+ hotkeys.

It is nice to play a game that tries to be different and I have enjoyed some of it.

BUT this game is not finished and will never be patched. Sega released it too early to try and cash in on the release of Halowars and the result feels like a Pre-Beta build.
The pathing of units is broken, a lot of animations are missing and selecting unit special abilities is very glitchy. e.g. you ask your Infiltrators to throw a demolition charge at a Node/unit. What happens is, the animation for the throw is missing so you do not know if it has been thrown or not, then here's the best bit, the explosion animation of the charge is missing so you have to wait and see if the unit 'dissapears' or not.

To sum it up, It plays like a Pre-Beta build and it will never be Patched as Sega has dropped it 1 month after it's release.

If I had the choice I would like my money back.
