Although there were various sub par spin-offs a true sequel has never appeared until now, and indeed looked like it might never appear at all as fashions moved on and realism seemed to become almost more important the fun when it came to driving games. That has simply served to make OutRun 2 and its uncomplicated driving style, full of powerslides and unlikely road conditions, all the more welcome.
The coin-op has been out for a year or so now and technically little concrete information is know about the console version, however since the technology behind the coin-op was based on Xbox hardware a perfect conversion is practically guaranteed. What's also promised though is a series of features unique to the home version, including a brand new mission mode with over 100 missions, a choice of eight Ferrari cars, a time attack and "heart attack" mode and full Xbox Live play for up to eight people at a time. Throw in remixed versions of those classic arcade tunes (and some brand new music as well) and you've got the ultimate arcade racer for new and old fans alike. --David Jenkins

Fantasticly fun game!,

This review is from: OutRun 2 (Xbox) (Video Game)
This game is seriously fun to play, has great music and awesome graphics. You can actually get put off racing the Ferrarri's by looking at the scenery! People that say this game is terrible and that no one can ever beat the original Outrun from many moons ago are totally missing the point! It's not trying to beat the original classic and Sega/Sumo Digital have got the balance just right to create a supurb, fun to play, not too serious, Ferrarri drifting rollercoaster of a game. The game most definantly has that feel you can only get from a Sega game. Things are kept interesting also as the more you play, the more goodies you can unlock and there are some interesting play modes for sure (trying to excite your lady friend by taking corners sideways anyone?). Rounding things up, try Outrun 2 out! You just might like it :)

Out Run 2 is quite frankly brilliant, Sega seem to be going from strength to strength and Out Run 2 cements their position amongst the top 5 publishers in the world again.Out Run 2 is a treasure trove of fantastic arcade racing delights, from the pixel perfect arcade mode to all the fun racing skill challenges. Out Run 2 will appeal to both retro heads who marvelled to the original back in 1986 and the Burnout generation. This game is simply put awesome! Well done Sega

This game is absolutely sublime. The Arcade mode is everything I remember from OutRun on the MD, with a slapping of Xbox-powered graphical marvel to look at. The speed is astonishing, and most importantly -- it's actually fun to play. Live is full of a great bunch of people on here, too. I haven't come across a single waster who sees fit to 'yank his cord' when he starts to get behind a bit. There's the online scoreboards, too. Then there's the mission mode, where you must perfrom certain tasks to win 'cards' and gradually unlock tracks/music/cars. Some of the missions here are absolutely crazy... 'Math Mayhem' is a personal favourite. As you drive along the track numbers with accompanying sums must be applied to the previous number and then you drive through the correct answer at the end of the course. Very nice. There's also the 'pleasure your woman' rounds where you have to perform tasks to 'her indoors' to keep her happy. She likes a bit of drifting, I'll tell you that. Then there's the wonderous remixes done by your favourite aural God and mine -- Sir Richard Jacques. What he's done with Magical Sound Shower is brilliant. What Sega, AM2, Sumo Digital and Richard Jacques have done here is fantastic. Don't wait for it to come out on Classics -- grab this now.
