Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

This "side story" to Sega's popular Shinobi invites players to live out the events following Hotsuma's victory over Hiruko's evil minions. But like all things, victory is fleeting and an evil such as Hiruko's is not so easily vanquished. Just as Tokyo begins the slow and tedious process of repairs, a new rift opens between Earth and the demon realm. Unwilling to take such supernatural threats lightly, the Japanese government enlists the talents of "Kunoichi," a skilled female ninja with a keen understanding of both martial and mystical arts. As Kunoichi, players will battle countless demonic foes within a wide assortment of unique urban environments spanning rooftops, construction sites, industrial factories and more.

Very difficult game 22 Oct 2008
By M. Chan
Fun:
Only saw 1 review for this game so here is the second. Shinobi featured quite a good storyline though fairly basic. But it was still enough to draw you in due to the gradual revealing of how the enemy came to existence, and also there is a sympathy to be felt for Hotsuma as a haunted man who has to face his demons once more.

The storyline in Nightshade (or Kunoichi) is pretty much non-existent and for this reason, it should be viewed purely as an arcade game. The developers did not spend any time on background story or provide any detail on te main character.

So one would expect the gaming experience to be better than Shinobi... Wrong. Whilst the sound is comparable to Shinobi. the graphics are sub-standard and many levels look very very bland, like you are in a VR training environment. The cutscenes are also a letdown for the majority of the time and the character graphics look far too jagged. The unforgiving jumps are still there as is the crap camera angles and sometimes you have to rely on luck for correct positioning.

IMHO, the Bosses in Shinobi are far more interesting than in Nightshade.

One good thing about Nightshade is you can play as Hotsuma providing you collect enough Oboro coins AND you have a saved Shinobi game. But playing Hotsuma still doesn't exempt you from those unforgiving jumps.

Amazing 9 May 2004
By A Customer
This game has wonderful graphic and sound. Well developed cutscenes to keep you rightly interested till the end. The fighting style is a merge between Chaos Legion and Tenchu. There are secret coins for you to collect so that you can unlock additional characters to play and additional play mode. The gameplay is quite linear, but there are lots of secret areas to uncover. There are also various restart points in a mission, so that you don't have to restart the whole mission when you died as many of them are quite long, if you don't care extremely about high score.

Fight on the top of a plane cruising through the city, thousands feet high skyscraper, undergound and many other intersting area. There are many skills to use, and more importantly all of them is extremely useful, not just there for embellishment. E.g. one of the main focus of this title is aerial combat, zipping from enemy to enemy and slashing them up without touching the ground.
