Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Sega Sports titles like NBA 2K2 are some of the best in the business, so Dreamcast owners' future losses will certainly be other console owners' gains. NBA 2k2 features all the teams, rosters, and most importantly, rule changes (like legal zone defence) found in the real NBA. Player faces have been mapped to realistic body types (complete with tattoos), so, you can identify a big man like Shaq or a speedster like Iverson without looking at their numbers. The game takes full advantage of the graphics-rendering power of advanced consoles by including better texturing, lighting effects, facial animations, and a higher polygon count to make sure all the jukes, spins, jumps, and dunks are as realistic as possible. The audio is also good, particularly the play-by-play which is accurate and speedy.

The controls are intuitive, even for people used to the Dreamcast, especially in the area of on-the-fly play calling. You can now use the right analog stick instead of the digital pad, so you don't have to take your thumb off the main controls (left analog stick) to call a new play or change formations. Other controls let you quickly and fluidly box out your opponent, spin, shoot, pass, fake, and dunk.

There are also eight street ball courts, and the addition of this makes for almost an entirely new game. In this respect NBA 2K2 is the equal of EA Sports' NBA Live series; but this game surpasses EA's title with its excellent AI. This game is challenging, satisfying, and fun in both single and multiplayer modes.--Bob Andrews

Dang, this game's good. I've played and owned both other NBA games made by Visual Concepts, but this out does both of them. There are so many little things that this game seems to improve upon each year. With NBA 2K, everyone got to play an excellent hoops game, with some minor flaws in the post up game. With NBA 2K1, they addressed many of the problems in the game's first outing, but decided to get rid of much of the strategy behind posting up. This year, VC included a stepping manuever that allows you to step around your defender while posting up. I think this really helps the game, and evens it out a lot. Also, I find 3 pointers are harder to shoot this year, but your actual %s of making them are higher. And the new animations are really great. I think they've been under-rated, because they add so much to the game. not only does it make everything look better, but it makes it feel like a totally different b-ball game. Of course, it isn't, and it still holds to same formula as NBA 2k1s. But is that bad? No. And I also noticed that they took out a lot of the more stupid announcer chat from the game. This was also a good move. With the improved animations, the addition of a drop step, and the new rosters, NBA 2k2 turns out to be the best NBA game yet.

a huge improvement 9 Mar 2002
By A Customer
i loved the first NBA 2k, and played it regularly since i got it about 18 months ago, so i couldn't wait to get hold of this (especially as the last version didn't get released here).
but when i did i was not at all dissapointed, it has been greatley improved in every area. the gameplay is now much more realistic (you can't block dunks and layups as easily, and passes can be intercepted to name a few improvenments).
the players now also look more realistic, and the players arms are now actually attached to their body.
there are loads more options inc franchise mode and street mode.
basically if u want a basketball game this is the best on any console. u wont be dissapointed
