Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Now's your chance to go trucking mad with 18 Wheeler Pro Trucker for the Dreamcast. Taking plenty of inspiration from Crazy Taxi, 18 Wheelersees you driving like a maniac through crowded streets and on the freeway in an 18-wheel monster truck. With your load varying from big rigs to a trailer full of logs, this is certainly a game for those who like crazy action.

There are a number of levels and options to chose from. The arcade mode sees you racing against the computer to get to the finish line not only in first position, but also with your load intact. Next up is the parking level, with a variety of challenges across a series of tracks; you have to guide your mammoth vehicle around streets, canyons and seaside resorts and try and do your best in parking these 40-tonne trucks. But be warned, knocking that rogue lamppost only loses you more time.

Apart from the racing and the parking the game does offer pure smash-and-run antics, rewarding you as you hit bonus cars and destroy your rivals. And of course no game like this would be complete without a versus mode--18 Wheeler will give you hours of fun as you challenge your mates as to who can beat who with a 40-tonne juggernaut.

This is Crazy Taxi--only bigger, bolder and heavier, and definitely one for gamers looking for a light-hearted 20 minutes of drive-and-destroy action. --Jason Denwood

Product Description

Even if you're not the type to bleat out the 1975 hit "Convoy" over a CB radio, you'll probably still get the sweats thinking about racing with 20 tons of cargo pushing your rig. Choose between four 18-wheel trucks, and then ride against rival truckers and the clock as you try to deliver your payload intact and on time. The game offers 20 stages on the way from New York to San Francisco, as well as four play modes: arcade, parking challenge, Score Attack, and versus. 18 Wheeler is compatible with separately sold steering wheel controllers.

.....that's meant for cheap thrills. As a home game it's just doesn't work. It's slow and un-entertaining, the arcade game worked because you sat in a huge seat and got rocked around for 3 minutes. Sadly without that this game is not worth buying in my opinion. I bought it and have played it for around 30 minutes.

ok, but too short 21 Jun 2001

This game is arcade perfect and fans of the arcade version will love it. however with no extra tracks the game is too short and the online gaming bit is no longer. It will only be worth buying it if you see it going cheaply.

Errr..... 13 Jun 2001

Well, what can I say? This game is simply way too short. Sure, it might be fine in the arcade, but bring it home without the huge steering wheel, and without anything extra of note to keep you playing, and you'll be wondering why you spent the money. There are only four very short courses, which can be completed in no time at all, and the parking challenges aren't really challenges at all. Although the two player mode has it's moments, it's simply not enough. I would have given it one star, but at times the two player mode does raise a smile, so I gave it another just for that.

I hate to slate DC games, because I like the console so much, and I want to encourage continuing game development for it. But even with this in mind, I still can't recommend this title to anyone unless you've more money than sense, and every other game on the DC. You'd be far better off taking a fiver down to the arcades, and getting it out of your system on the arcade machine. Any more than 20 minutes on the DC and you'll be looking for something else, and in my book, that doesn't warrant the asking price.
