Here you get all the hits, though they are spread throughout the set. You also get their covers of folk songs, though not as many as on that other compilation, but what you also get here are their interpretations of contemporary material including some of their own songs that weren't hits.
The big hits were I'll never find another you, A world of our own, The carnival is over, Morningtown ride and Georgy girl, all of which made the UK top three, two of them going all the way to number one. Walk with me also made the UK top ten while Someday one day and When will the good apples fall just failed to reach the UK top ten. In America, their successes were fewer but Georgy girl was a bigger hit there than in the UK.
Traditional folk is represented here by The leaving of Liverpool, Open up them pearly gates, We shall not be moved and Sinner man.
Other covers include 59th street bridge song (Simon and Garfunkel), Island of dreams (Springfields), Red rubber ball (Bobby Vee), Yesterday (Beatles), Turn turn turn (Pete Seeger, later covered by Byrds), The times they are a-changing (Bob Dylan), Louisiana man (Doug Kershaw), This land is your land (Woody Guthrie), All over the world (Francoise Hardy) and California dreaming (Mamas and Papas).
Other songs of their own featured here include Come the day (the title track to one of their albums), The music of the world a-turning (originally a B-side) and Love is kind love is wine.
If you only want a single CD of music by the Seekers, this full-length collection is the strongest I've seen.
One point of note is that twice, the listed reviews of the track 'Red Rubber Ball' has been misrepresented in terms of writers. It was written by Bruce Woodley of The Seekers and Paul Simon of Simon & Garfunkel.
Don't wish to be pernickety here, but if I'd written the song, I'd like the correct credit to be given!
I would highly recommend anybody to also purchase The Seekers Complete which is a 5 Disc virtually complete recording history of the Seekers, also the Album Future Road and of course if you can lay your hands on them, any of Judith Durham's solo recordings. Prepare to be amazed!
