2.0 out of 5 stars Nothing new and nothing special 7 Jun 2012
By A. Crandall - Published on Amazon.com
If you're a total newcomer to The Velvets, looking for a basic intro to their history, then Bockris' Uptight: The Velvet Underground Story is a much superior read (look for the `83 edition for some great pics, too). If you're a serious Velvets fan who wants an insightful bio, you can't beat Richie Unterberger's White Light/White Heat The Velvet Underground Day By Day (Genuine Jawbone Books) which contains a near-exhaustive amount of detail and far more sage commentary.

As for this, it's adequate, nothing more. There's no new insights, the usual quotes which have been recycled dozens of times, and his grip on facts is often shaky (hey Rob - "Suzie-Q" was originally recorded by Dale Hawkins, not CCR).

3.0 out of 5 stars Only ok 23 May 2012

Pleasant enough history of my all time favorite band (having seen the Reed-Yule-Morrison-Tucker lineup at a sparsely attended Minneapolis show in 1969). Not a lot new here and a few inconsistencies on dates, but a decent synopsis of the band and it's members. Best for die hard fans.

2.0 out of 5 stars Skip This 11 May 2012

Lots of quotes in here taken from the Bockris/Malanga VU book "Uptight". Track that one down and read it instead.

This book is poorly edited. The author will tell you something and then a couple of pages later, say it again.

I got this out of the library. I'm glad I didn't spend any money on it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Good 24 May 2012

A very basic history of the band, tons of factual errors (too many to list). Nothing new at all. Any other Velvets book will serve you better.

3.0 out of 5 stars REED SLOWLY & SEE 30 April 2012
By Egebamyasi - Published on Amazon.com
Only about 1000 people ever bought a Velvet Underground album, but every one of them wrote a book about them.
