The images and concise text have helped to push me into investing in MF equipment of my own. The man has a fantastic eye and achieves his stunning images with a relatively straightforward camera set up. I have found that emulating this "low-tech" approach has helped me to be far more careful in my composition. This really is about "Seeing Landscapes"! You can become a better photographer by reading this book.

A must for landscape photographers, 29 May 2001
By A Customer
I was looking for a photography book on landscapes that, not only gave me technical instruction, but also inspired me to produce great photos. What I liked about this book was that it covered both - for each of the fantastic photos in this book, the author has outlined the camera, film, lense, filter, time of day etc - this is extremely helpful for improving your technical skills.
But more importantly, this book really does teach you how to 'see' a good picture. OK, so this is a very personal thing and each person sees a landscape differently - but by giving you things to look out for and by sharing the author's personal experiences of each of the photos, it really does help you to produce better pictures.
An excellent reference book and an inspiring read.

An inspirational artistic insight into landscape photography, 10 Mar 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Seeing Landscapes (Paperback)
What an inspiration! With modern camera systems largely coping with the technical aspects of photography, Charlie Waite's book cannot fail to help us improve our landscape photography by helping to concentrate on developing the compositional and artistic skills of "seeing" the potential picture. Goodbye to "postcard" photography, welcome to the world of artistic impression!
Right from the front cover our eye is drawn into a new appreciation of scale, depth, light, colour, time of day, composition, angles and symmetry.
Whereas once we might have assumed that a rectangular format was the obvious frame for landscapes, and knew that panoramic views were also an option, how satisfying to see the square format used to such good effect.6cm by 6cm can also be cropped to a rectangular or panoramic alternative.
Perhaps now many of us can be encouraged to dip into the medium format, even if initially it might be via the more economical TLR camera route.
Whatever our preferred equipment, after reading and absorbing this book, landscape photgraphy need never/should never be ordinary again.
