Steamy and full of suspense, this is one of Susan Johnson's best. 8 Dec 2011

Seductive as Flame by Susan Johnson
Historical Romance -Dec. 6th, 2011
4 stars

Alec Munro, the Earl of Dalgliesh, is trapped in a loveless marriage. Famous for his numerous liaisons and vicious wife, he does not expect to encounter the dashing and extraordinary Zelda MacKenzie. As they tumble headlong into a wild affair, Alec quickly realizes that his heart could be in danger...

I loved Zelda's character. She's so independent and modern, a complete departure from the usual fragile misses or feisty but childish heroines. I especially liked her leave it or take it attitude towards Alec. She is realistic; she knows that he's a legendary Casanova who's already married. She is prepared for their affair to end anytime. Alec on the other hand is the typical handsome and sexually powerful alpha male. To me, his character is not as exciting as Zelda, but the mystery behind his marriage and his mother's illness was my main motivation for reading the book till the very last page.

Steamy and full of suspense, this is one of Susan Johnson's best.

fun late Victorian erotic romance 6 Dec 2011
By Harriet Klausner - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
In 1894, Scottish Zelda Mackenzie has just returned home after spending time exploring the Brazilian rainforest. She attends her cousin Jamie Blackwood's house party where she meets his friend an earl Alec Munro who shows he is interested in her.

However though attracted to the earl, she rejects his seduction as she refuses to bed a married man. He insists he has a "free" arrangement, but she still declines although she likes the way he is kind and nurturing with his young stepson. As Alec continues to press her into an affair, Zelda reconsiders her earlier position and agrees to a tryst. As they shock each other by falling in love, his feckless wife interferes with their relationship as much as his fear that he will prove to be just like his abusive dad.

This late Victorian erotic romance is a fun read though the storyline is emaciated except in the boudoir as the only external suspense involves to divorce or not to divorce his despicable wife. The heroine is a courageous person who does not acre one iota what society thinks of her; as what you see is what you get. The lead male is much more complex with an ugly history. Sub-genre fans will enjoy Susan Johnson's heater.

Where are you, Susan Johnson? 15 Jan 2012
By Elise Marks - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
While this was written in typical Susan Johnson fashion, it didn't hold my interest. I enjoyed her older epic tales, of rakes and historical significance. This entire series is fluff. While I enjoy Susan's characters tremendously,in this outing, they lack depth. The story ended so abruptly, I was in total disbelief. Far from her best.
