I thoroughly enjoyed this sexy, thrilling page turner, which is surprisingly touching. Tony Garnett has crafted a twisting plot centralised on a strong female character that you would love to hate but are unable to. Lucy Forster is a powerful and successful businesswoman, who does not take prisoners on her path to ultimate female domination in a male world. Believing herself to be devoid of sentimentality, Lucy is ruthless as she manipulates the men who find themselves part of her ultimate plan. However, at the heart of the book is Garnett's exploration of how people who are seemingly controlled by lust can be touched by love.

Thought provoking, educating, amusing, yet heartbreaking ... this fast paced psychological thriller is brilliant entertainment.
Tony Garnett creates outrageous characters who are motivated by desires of power, greed, love or lust.
Each characters private thoughts and actions are intimately revealed, so that the reader witnesses in shocking detail the way that the characters exploit each other.
Some get immensely rich while others are driven to despair or madness.
The page turning plot provides a fascinating insight into the devious psychology which is employed by public relations and advertising companies to persuade people to buy products and services or company shares.
Lucy Foster feels driven, no matter what the cost, to satisfy her ambition and inner demons, and to use her social skills and sexual charms to get who and what she wants.
Will it be too late when she realises just how far she has overpaid ?
An emotional experience which will cause you to think about this book for many weeks after reading it.

I enjoyed this book but I think I missed the social comment the writer was trying to make. Or was he trying to comment on the different social aspects?
The characters didn't really come to life for me and I found one of the sub-characters more engaging than the protagonist. One other reviewer said they couldn't help but like Lucy but I found nothing endearing about her at all. The tone of the narrative was probably a little too academic (I don't like the Tolkien for the same reason) for the characters to really shine through.
The structure and flow were all really good but I had a feeling that it ended without being resolved.
