Book Description

Warning #1: This book is not to be taken seriously. Do not read this if you don't have the sense of humor of a 15 year old boy. Do not read this if you ARE a fifteen year old boy. This book is totally crude and inappropriate and uses the word "vagina" a lot. No, I mean A LOT. If you don't think people who are drunk are hilarious, you shouldn't read this book. You probably shouldn't read this book if you aren't drunk yourself. You should probably just put this book down and get drunk. You may think that no one in the world talks like the people in this book, but they do. They are called "people who are funny and inappropriate". This book is completely unrealistic; the author is aware of that fact and did it on purpose.

2012 Goodreads Choice Award Nominee - Best Romance

Claire is a twenty-something, single mom that grudgingly helps her best friend sell sex toys while she attempts to make enough money to start her own business to give her foul-mouthed, but extremely loveable (when he’s asleep) toddler a better life.

When Carter, the one-night-stand from her past that changed her life forever, shows up in her hometown bar without any recollection of her besides her unique chocolate scent, Claire will make it a point that he remembers her this time.

With Carter’s undisguised shock at suddenly finding out he has a four-year-old son and Claire’s panic that her stretch marks and slim to none bedroom experience will send the man of her dreams heading for the hills, the pair will do whatever they can to get their happily ever after.

Warning #2: contains explicit sex, profanity and enough sarcasm to choke a horse.

Now where do I start with this? Well firstly, I need to catch my breath, massage my face and stomach muscles, and wish that I had listened to my Doctor's after childbirth and practiced those pelvic floor exercises. This book, in all of his entirety is one of the funniest and honest stories I have ever read. PLEASE DO NOT READ IT IN PUBLIC, unless you want to get carted away by the sunshine bus.

Claire never wanted kids. Ever! A dedicated University student, who had her life mapped out. A successful career and her best friend, Liz, to share it with. Sex with boys in campus was never an option, much to Liz's disgrace. That is, until one night, everything changed.

Sick to death of her virginity being a mock discussion topic among her nearest and dearest, Claire makes the decision to just, 'get it over with.'

Attending a frat party with Liz was never something on the agenda, but when she spots a hot guy who is easy going and shares the same taste in a certain 80's movie, the stage is set.

"You want to go refill your drink, maybe play a game of beer pong or something?"
I want to reach in my pants, pull out my virginity, wrap it up and put a bow on it. Or maybe stick it in a gift bag from Target and give it to him like a present with a nice card that says, "Thank you for being you! Just a little virginity to show you my gratitude!"

As the night progresses, Claire gets her wish. However, as morning approaches, and as much as she would love to wake up in his arms, she knows she can't keep him. Afterall, her plans are set, and nothing will change them. A boyfriend would make her lose sight of her goals, and its a distraction she didn't need or want.

But... Her future was going to get a slam dunk into s-ville. Yes....

I read this first a couple of years ago, and think it was the first book ever to make me properly laugh out loud.

I decided on a re read, as I had picked up the first 2 in the series about the children from this one.

This time around, did I find it a bit more over the top, silly, and a bit too...erm, try hard in places? I think so.

However, it is still funny, and there was not one character I did not enjoy reading about or love.

It is a great, pure fun read, no huge drama, just a funny cute story about a couple finding each other again, surrounded by their quite possibly insane friends.

As long as you do not think to hard about it, try not to get offended at some of the "opinions" about what happens to a woman's body after child birth (I have had 2 children, it was a bit much!!!) and just ignore the over the top daft bits, or take them as they were meant to be taken - ie, not at all seriously, then it is really enjoyable.

But, if you are easily offended by foul language and lots of alcohol consumption, do not read this book.

Would I have rated it as high if I was reading it as a new to me book now? Not sure. I still enjoyed it, it made me laugh still, although not the laugh out loud moments of the first read, but then I knew what was coming. So rating still stands for as I said, being the first book to ever make me cry laughing, and nearly break my nose at the time, as I dropped my kindle on my face a few times.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely belly splitting brilliant romance 23 Aug. 2012

I have never laughed so much in my life and I only wish there were more than 5 stars as this book definitely deserves it...little Gavin..what can I say, I love that kid and Carter (swoon) I love him soooo much.. I have been reading loads of YA Romance recently and this book was recommended by one of the authors so I thought that a light hearted read would be the days choice...I could not put it down.. It is a lovely romance story but the way it was told and the humour just made me side splittingly laugh..I have never laughed so much reading a book to the point I needed the tissues. If you haven't read it WHY??? It is a must read and should be in the top of anyones TBR list..I LOVED IT

I just had to put a review on! I brought this book without a sample first and thought omg what a boring book! The first 2 chapters were just horrific about a girl who'd never have children and put her lady bits through the hell of childbirth but ends up pregnant at 20! But once you got through to present day when her child is a toddler it's so funny I was crying with laughter throughout the rest of the book! I would highly recommend if u need a good laugh and cheer up!

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny & light 24 Nov. 2014

Um... Where do I start with this one?

I looked for a light hearted funny read & boy did I get it.

What a great bunch of friends who are all just the right amount of crazy!

Claire is such a great character, embracing all life throws at her with sarcasm & humour.

I don't even know how to explain how much I loved Gavin, that kid is a hoot! No idea how Claire is still a functioning human/parent with the stuff he comes out with... Wait scratch that, its obvious Claire wings it at times (not a bad parenting jibe!)

Liz & Jim are great together & as much as they joke they adore Claire & Gavin, supporting them whole heartedly.

Not much I can say about Jenny except her vocabulary challenged ways were so funny.

Enter Carter & Drew, what are the chances these people are thrown back together after all these years?
LOVE Drew's shirts, I am a tad jealous of his collection.

Carter is amazingly resilient given the shock of everything & fear George instills.

George Morgan is likened to Chuck Norris quite early on by Claire & it is BANG ON!

To say I have had more than my fair share of 'she's finally lost the plot' looks from my other half while reading this, there are some BLOODY BRILLIANT one liners!
