Book Description

27 Nov 2007 Bantam Historical Romance
Townsfolk called him devil. For dark and enigmatic Julian, Earl of Ravenwood, was a man with a legendary temper and a first wife whose mysterious death would not be forgotten. Some said the beautiful Lady Ravenwood had drowned herself in the black, murky waters of Ravenwood Pond. Others whispered of foul play and the devil's wrath.

Now country-bred Sophy Dorring is about to become Ravenwood's new bride. Drawn to his masculine strength and the glitter of desire that burned in his emerald eyes, the tawny-haired lass had her own reasons for agreeing to a marriage of convenience. One was vengeance, and in its pursuit she would entangle Julian in a blackmail plot, a duel at dawn, and a dangerous masquerade. The other reason was dearer to her heart, but just as wild a quest: Sophy Dorring intended to teach the devil to love again.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just Can't Relate to Sophie 20 Dec 2009
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I'm not an avid romance novel reader, but a friend introduced me to Amanda Quick and I find her books very enjoyable. Her female characters break the usual mold of romance heroines. They are much more likely to be intelligent, adventurous blue stockings than the the sort of characters from the previous few romances I had read. That said, had this book been my introduction to Amanda Quick it would have been my last.

I just couldn't relate to Sophie as a heroine. I thought she embodied too many of the negative stereotypes attached to female romance heroines by being a weak willed, manipulative liar. Julian, on the other hand, is an unreasonable, overbearing clod who is absolutely unlovable. If you aren't already an Amanda Quick fan, I would urge you to consider one of her later books instead of this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightfull!!! 16 July 1998
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This is one of Miss Quick's best books and as always it is very easy to fall in love with her characters and identify with them as they encounter the joys, struggles, and hardships of love. My only "complaint" to Miss Quick is that she made me long for a sequel to this book, in which she deals with the Ravenwood's best friends,Lord Deargate and Miss Silverthorn, whose mysterious relationship leave you longing to know more about what will eventually happen between them. And also as is the case with such memorable characters as Julian and Sophie, it is no hardship to hear about them again. Once more I repeat that this is a great book and it supplies a joyous afternoon of reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Captures your attention until the end! 16 Feb 1999
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
A friend introduced me to Amanda Quick's books and historical romances on a whole. Since then she has become my favourite. I have read the 3 Ds, Ms, Rs, Ss, and 1 A. Above all, "Seduction" was my favourite. There is so much there to appeal to the readers. Any sequels on the horizon for Lord Daregate and Ann? Surely hope so!
