5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome author! Read this! 4 Mar 2003
Format:Mass Market Paperback
The first book was THE ROGUE AND THE HELLION, released in June 2002. In this story we still have two delightful rogues left, Ram and Luc.

Ramsey Dunsmore, Earl of Braxton, used to spy for the English government. When the Foreign Office requested his help in the search for a priceless amulet that had been stolen from Egypt, he agreed because of personal reasons.

Sir Andrew Thompson was an Egyptologist. He and his daughter, Phoebe, had been collecting artifacts in a newly opened tomb in Egypt when they found a valuable amulet. It disappeared shortly afterward and the Egyptian government was demanding its return. Officials thought Lord Thompson stole it. Unless it was recovered quickly, communications between England and Egypt would crumble.

The last thing Phoebe wanted was for Ram to show up in her life again. her father had been kidnapped the instant he set foot upon the English docks. She and David Phillips, her father's assistant, had been searching everywhere for him. The abductors demanded the amulet in exchange for her father. However, Phoebe did not have it. They never stole it! She did NOT believe Ram had really forgiven her for what she had done to him four years ago, so she knew he wanted SOMETHING, but now was not a good time for him to reenter her life.

***** Once again author Connie Mason has proven herself to be tops in the field of Historical Romance. This book caught me on the very first page and made me miss breakfast AND lunch because I could not stop reading. I had to know what would happen next! Trust me, you DO NOT want to miss out on this story. Highly recommended! *****

1.0 out of 5 stars awful 6 May 2003
By Risa - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This book was terrible, mostly because of the grating and not-too-bright Phoebe. With a missing necklace and two men in her life, one of which is a traitor, she finds she has to choose which one to trust.

One man always knows what is going on before Phoebe (or anyone else) tells him, and always demands that she tell him where the necklace is. When she says she doesn't know, he doesn't believe her and instead grabs her roughly. He shows 0 concern for her missing father and stops her from seeking help with the authorities.

The other man does everything in his power to protect the ungrateful Phoebe, showing repeatedly that he is concerned about her father and trying his hardest to find him. He also saves Phoebe's life more than once.

Of course, Phoebe blindly places her faith in the first guy, despite all evidence to the contrary. Then she proceeds to be incredibly mean to the other man and refuses to listen to anything he has to say (though everything he has to say is obviously common sense). I really don't know what he saw in her.

As for the plot, it was transparent and contrived. The traitor, as mentioned before, was hardly a surprise. Neither were any of the other "twists". Everything was predictable, and the sex scenes were all exactly the same. The characters were entirely forgettable (I had to check to see what Ram's name was).

I bought this book at an airport to read on the plane, and I think I could have better spent the money on candy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Certainly steamy enough!! 19 Mar 2005

Wow this one was to die for in the bedroom - and almost every other room too!! Phoebe and Ram had a past that had for once left the man the rejected one - which sent Ram into a life of debauchery and he wanted nothing to do with Phoebe ever again. So he finds himself by order of the Crown forced back into her life. Thinking of course that he will be able to keep his lust in check, well that lasted about one day. This couple was hot and the mystery surrounding the amulet made for a good backdrop to unravelling their feelings and possibly learning to trust one another. For this couples biggest problem was lack of trust. My only reservation on 5 stars would be the reason Phoebe left him 4 years earlier- David Phillips just came off to much as a scoundrel to ever seem to be able to influence Phoebe to leaving the man she loved. But alls well that ends well and this ended quite well - looking forward to Luc 's story now - what will London women do without the 3 Rogues??
