3.0 out of 5 stars I'll say that again, 6 Oct 2003

This review is from: Security + Study Guide and DVD Training System (Hardcover)
To be fair the book is not bad, it has a good coverage of the topics in the Security+ exam. It goes into enough detail to get you through the exam.

I will say that the questions and answers in the book are a little suspect, and leads me to believe they skimped on the proof reading, which is always dangerous, especially when you consider the exam is £200 a pop.

It tends to be really repetitive. Too much so.

Further, the DVD is the stuff that makes decent IT trainers cringe. It appears to show a trainer teaching a class. The trainer on the DVD is truely awful. He is a better author than a trainer. He appears nervous, lacks confidence and too often just reads the slides.

If you buy the book and just ignore the DVD trainer its not bad.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good coverage but not enough practice questions, 26 May 2003
This review is from: Security + Study Guide and DVD Training System (Hardcover)
This books covers all the objectives of exam but as far as questions are concerned there could have been more. Even the ones available online just give you a rough idea. I did use other practice questions. The DVD is very short and it explained only some of the key concepts while the others were barely mentioned.
A online edition of the book would have been nice. All in all a pretty decent book and I did get my concepts clear. (Also I passed my exam)

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book....but too much theory and not enough practise, 14 Mar 2006
By
This review is from: Security + Study Guide and DVD Training System (Hardcover)
I found this book very good to read and also very fascinating but I felt there was alot of theory and not enough practise. In all fairness it does give you the name of certain tools which you can use but to complete the book, some exercises would have been good to enhance your knowledge. Otherwise it is a good book and worth having in your IT/Security book collection.
