(REAL NAME)      
This is not a music CD in the conventional sense. It is a distillation of various talks that Carlos had given up to the time of release of this album (1986). A stroll through the development of electronic music, she guides us from her early collaborations with Bob Moog through to her use of digital synths and alternative tunings.

She maintains a pleasant, informal tone throughout and her words are well illustrated with numerous short excerpts of her work. Of particular interest are the description of the "hocketing" technique which she originally developed to imbue her earlier baroque realisations with movement; the limitations of the analogue synthesiser and why it was is necessary to go digital; her pioneering work on alternative tunings to extend the musical palette.

I would hesitate to recommend this to the casual listener, but to the "synth head" it provides fascinating insights and
useful ideas for creating electronic music and textures. It also makes one wonder if electronic music has, artistically,
progressed much in the last 18 years. Highly recommended.
