I have read dozens of Bridge books, some good... some impenetrable. This is an outstanding book for any player below Senior level (and some at that level!!). The reader cannot fail to improve his/her game. The content focuses on bread-and-butter situations at the table. There are no complicated or esoteric subjects. Of particular note are the sections on hand valuation, competitive bidding and pre-empts. Furthermore, the book is written in a readble format, a virtue that has been missing from many tomes over the last couple of decades. My advice to anyone who reads this book cover-to-cover? Go back to the beginning and read it again.....

This is not a book for complete beginners. Tony Forrester assumes some basic understanding. He visits the basic skills required to play competitive bridge from the eye of an expert - it is a refreshing perspective. His approach is plain-and-simple, but actually very subtle and backed-up with years of top level experience.

Format: Paperback
This book helps you better quantify your hand- bridge is not just a game of counting points in your hand but how intermediate cards can add value, (touching) honours in long suits, strategic points in partner's suit(s); all of these will help in assessing the final goal of the combined hands. It is well written and thought provoking and an essential for the bridge improver.
