Review

'Rolf always offers a fresh perspective on the game that's refreshing. His columns help readers think outside the box which is extremely important for any player looking to get to the next level.'Daniel Negreanu, one of the world's leading authors. 4-times bracelet winner, 2-times WPT Champion, and over $10 million in live tournament earnings 'There is not a single author who has caused as much irritation and aggravation as Slotboom has, yet who at the same time has such a refreshing and independent line of thinking. The author is not afraid to bite the hand that feeds him, and while he is very critical when it comes to the advice of others, he is also not afraid to ridicule or criticize his own plays at times.'Mel Judah, one of the world's most consistent tournament players with numerous cashes and final tables at major events. Former bracelet winner at the WSOP'A collection of the good, accurate and sometimes controversial columns that Rolf has written over the years, completely revised to take into account the growth of online play and the no-limit hold'em boom. I highly recommend it.'Thierry van den Berg (better known under his online handle BOKPOWER), one of the rising stars in tournament poker - with almost $800,000 live tournament winnings in just two years of play

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting analysis of Hold'em and Omaha, 4 Nov 2008

This review is from: Secrets of Professional Poker , Volume 1: Winning Strategies for Limit Hold em, No-Limit Hold’em and Omaha: v. 1 (Paperback)
This book is a collection of previously-published articles, which, according to the introduction, have been rewritten to take into account changes in the game. From what I can see the rewriting has been minimal, so if you're familiar with the originals, i.e. Slotboom's other books and magazine articles, then you can safely skip this. Otherwise, this book is a good buy. It covers Limit and No-Limit Hold'em and, of course, Pot-Limit Omaha. NB: Slotboom's focus is purely on cash games. If you're purely interested in NLHE then I'd suggest Harrington on Cash Games would be a better buy. If you're diligent, however, this is still worth a read since there are a number of NLHE players who started out in limit and still have a limit-orientated mindset (this is particularly true of U.S.-based players), so I think this book would help you to understand your opponents' play. If you're interested in learning Omaha, I'd suggest that buying Omaha Poker by Bob Ciaffone together with this book, would get you hitting the ground running. Once you've had some actually playing experience, move on to Pot-Limit Omaha by Jeff Hwang. There are a lot of excellent Limit Hold'Em books out there. Personally I think the best is Middle-Limit Hold'Em, again by Bob Ciaffone and I think Slotboom's Limit Hold'Em articles make a good companion for it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Bad!, 26 Feb 2009
By John "Johnny Number's" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Secrets of Professional Poker , Volume 1: Winning Strategies for Limit Hold em, No-Limit Hold’em and Omaha: v. 1 (Paperback)
This book is OK. Rolf is generally a very good author with a great insight to Pot Limit Omaha. Everything in the Holdem sections was seen before. I like Rolf's other books just on Omaha. This book is essentially a recap of his articles written for Card Player and other magazines. Good information that everyone should read, but not my highest rated poker strategy book.
