I already have some of Carrie's drawing books, which give advice about drawing tools and shading techniques. This book is really a continuation of her work. Carrie uses top quality watercolour pigments in her demonstrations, which lead to good quality artwork.
What I found really interesting, is how some of the painting demonstrations look a real mess when half-way through. A novice painter could easily get discouraged by what they see. But when you see the finished demonstration....wow !!
Anyone interested in Watercolour portraits should definately buy this book, and Carries' other books on drawing as well.
As the saying goes.....a painting is only as good as the drawing. If you can't draw, how can you paint ??? In her books, Carrie teaches both. Included with this book, comes a dvd of Carrie painting a girl in watercolour. Terrific value for money.
Plenty of tips are included throughout this book. I hope Carrie brings out more books like this.

Informative and helpful step by step approach to this subject with good examples. Encouraging in it's attitude to trial and error. Recommendation to people with some existing water colour technique. Useful ideas to apply to other areas, not just portraits.

I have enjoyed reading this book and I realise that it takes a lot more courage than I have to paint this way. I have taken some of the points and adapted them to suit me.

When this book arrived I was keen to look inside to see how to paint realistic faces in watercolour but to be honest was disappointed. It lacked the impact I was hoping for. It would probably suit a lot of people but I'm afraid it wasn;t for me and I returned it to Amazon.
