I bought this for my Kindle. Oh, how I enjoyed Kath Hardy's story of her mother, aunty, sisters, brothers and of course herself. It moves from her childhood through to her adult years and the beginning of her middle age. It is a very moving story and I became engrossed in her family and their laughter, tears, struggles, happiness and disappointments. I feel that I know them all so well.

It was especially interesting for me because I know lots of the places she spoke about when growing up, having moved to that part of Greater London when I married many years ago.

It is written very well indeed and I recommend this book to everyone who likes personal family stories. You will not be disappointed in choosing this book. There is a silver thread running through each page, such is the love and heartfelt way that Kathleen has written her story.

Thank you Kathleen for letting the reader be an observer through your life story which is so interesting. I hope you find in the future what you still seek.

This book was over 4000 pages long and took me about 2 weeks to read, I was really into it and was very anxious to find out her 'mothers secrets'. However towards the end the book starts to drag on a lil and get really confusing, she's one of 10 children, all her siblings have at least 2 kids, her aunts and uncles and friends... there are way too many names.
This didn't bother me till I finished reading the book as we don't actually find out any of her mother secrets. It should have been called 'my complicated life' not 'secrets my mother kept'. What secrets? I'm really disappointed.

From a fragmented and often harrowing childhood to an adult life full of questions. This book tells the story of Kath Hardy's childhood and the search for her father. It is also an interesting study on what the effects of a troubled childhood can have later in life. A very well written memoir with a mystery angle not present is other similar tales. Well worth a read.

From start to finish an unbelievable account of this ladies life.(Kathy Hardy) I am lost for words to describe how I feel about KHardy but also her mother, so I feel it best to say no more and hope my comments will encourage this book to be read.

It was not quite what I was expecting, and although I am of the same era, and the book brought back some memories of my own childhood, I found it rather lengthy and boring in places. My childhood in the country with a small family was another world.

I usually pass on my books to my daughter, but I don't think this one will appeal to her, although she has read about it in The Times Review and we have discussed it.
