5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic non-fiction for proficient readers 2 July 2013
By Sarah Durston TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback
I have bought a number of these DK readers as I've been really impressed by the level of detail, the standard of English and the great photos and illustrations. The books are full colour and give details for how to pronounce unfamiliar words that are related to the topic being covered and also a short glossary at the back.

Secrets of the Mummies is intended for Proficient readers and I would concur that both the language and the content might make it unsuitable for very small children. The book details the mummification process used in Ancient Egypt, the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb and the possibility that opening it released a curse, the Incas, Mummies in Sicily, the mystery surrounding Eva Peron's preserved body and how mummification works today (touching briefly on kryogenics.)
At times the subject matter is slightly grisly, as you'd expect, and does also include details of brains being removed through nostrils, a young girl being sacrificed to the Gods and photos of mummies in various states.

I thought this book was wonderful but you might want to consider how sensitive your little one is before buying!

I really liked the book of Secrets Of The Mummies because it has lots of information about the mummies in Egipt. I have been reading 47 pages in the book.
