5.0 out of 5 stars A fabulous book for those DMs with strong Magical Campaigns, 12 Jul 2000
By A Customer
This book has to rate as one of the most impressive of those guide books written by Ed. Greenwood. A tour-de-force of details on the mysterious mage office of Magister - it is easy to read and full of campaign ideas for any DM - whether the DM is looking to have the Magister appear in a campaign, whether a player is aspiring to the role or whether the DM is looking for new spells to throw at players ! The Spells themselves and the lore with them is the hightlight of the book - any players mage would give his soul for just a peak at the spells that are described within its pages, let alone get the campaign details on the possibility of casting 10th level spells

All in all a fabulous book, easy to read, easier to use and easiest of all to add to any burgeoning campaign world - whether Forgotten Realms specific or not. Just don't let your DM get too trigger happy with those spells !

5.0 out of 5 stars Secrets of the Magister, Ed Greenwood does it again!, 18 Jul 2002
Very much in the style of the Drow of the Underdark or Elves of Evermeet supplements, this book is as much about campaign background and history on the mysterious Magister as it is about game mechanics.
The Magister was originally mentioned very briefly in the original Forgotten Realms boxed set, but the idea of finding out about the best wizard in Faerun has always been left hanging until now.
Good history sections combine with brand new and impressive spells and details on the previous and current magisters for your campaign, and the rules which govern that lofty position.
I'd recommend this to any Realsm fan purely as an important piece of background, and is a must for any high level campaign with Wizards in it.
