3.0 out of 5 stars DECEIT AND ROMANCE 8 Jun 2000
By Betty J Williams - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
SECRETS OF THE HEART-At seventeen Amanda Reynolds lived an unhappy life since the death of her mother. To escape her father's constant abusive behavior, Amanda accept Drew Conners, a successful business, proposal of a platonic marriage. With objections from Drew family, leaving him to think this was the right thing to do. Although, attracted to Amanda, there was the age difference between them. Nevertheless, they were married. Months passed, Amanda thinking that Drew didn't love her, because most married couples would have consummated their marriage, but they had not. What Amanda didn't realize, wasn't that Drew didn't love her, but his struggle with the age difference, this issue was more than he could handle, she was only seventeen, thinking in five years she wouldn't seem to innocent and naive.

The story continues with Amanda Conners meeting her best friend, Nicole for lunch. Nicole thinking this is a celebratory lunch for the last of their final exams, but Amanda knew differently. Plans were made to end her loveless marriage, at least she thought so.

Devastated in finding a note, Drew thought things were getting better between he and Amanda, but in reality he knew she was unhappy, also realizing that he had fallen in love with his wife, but he would give her time, he could always locate her through Nicole. When Nicole called, asking for Amanda, Drew was surprised, Amanda had not told her best friend. Drew informed Nicole of Amanda's note, she was not coming back, her reaction to Drew is cold. Drew, appreciating that Nicole is Amanda's friend, but Nicole was prying into something that didn't concern her. Apologizing, Nicole told Drew she would contact him when Amanda called.

Informed of Amanda's location, Drew decided to give her time, while putting his plan into action, his plan being, to court, to romance his wife, to treat her the way she should have been when they were married.

Amanda contacted Nicole, informing Nicole for her where about, and that she was fine, they would talk soon. Nicole called to let Amanda know that she and David were getting married, and being her best friend, she would be her Matron of Honor. Two months after the announcement of her wedding, Nicole phoned to say there would be an engagement party, and Amanda could stay the weekend. Nicole not letting Amanda know Drew would be there, and he was in the wedding party.

Night of the engagement party, Drew approached Amanda, thinking how beautiful, and mature she was, no longer that young naive girl, but his beautiful wife. Thinking this creates another problem...they were still married, he loved his wife, and wanted her back in his life, deciding against a divorce. After the party, Drew offered to take Amanda to Nicole's apartment, since Nicole and David had left. Drew ask if they could have dinner the next evening, but Amanda informed him she would be going home, seeing the look on Drew's face, she decided to accept. At dinner the next evening, Drew informed Amanda, that they were still marrried, and he would like to try their marriage again. After this revelation, Amanda and Drew start dating, finally Drew decides he want more, he wanted Amanda in their home with him, she agrees, but with conditions.

The day arrived for Amanda's move, the Center, where she worked as a Child Psychologist gave a party in her honor, and everyone said their goodbyes, but Amanda knew she would miss the children most of all, which had become an important part of her life.

After settling in her new life with Drew, everything was wonderful, but Amanda still hadn't found a job, after being independent for so long, she stop depending on anyone, including Drew. Drew knew this was the reason for her insistence in finding a job, Drew content with the situation, he enjoyed having Amanda home when he arrived. Sometime later, Amanda received a call from Nicole, stating that Amanda's father was in a car accident, but knowing the hostility between them, Amanda chose not to visit the hospital. Receiving a telephone call from the hospital about insurance for her father, and him not cooperating. Amanda decides to visit her father, as usual his abusiveness was rampant. Getting no help from him, Amanda decide to go to her father's home, which she hadn't been inside since she was seventeen. Using the key left from years ago, and hoping it would still work, it did, he had not changed anything, including the locks. Checking through her father's papers for insurance information, Amanda come upon medical paper concerning her mother, and evidence of her mother being a live.

As SECRETS OF THE HEART continues, the unfolding deceit, intrigue, revenge, and spite, leaves the reader with a double dose of exhilarating pleasure. I've enjoy all of Ms. Tyner's novels and look for more in the future. This is a must read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but not the Best 15 May 2000
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
As I was reading the book I was trying to figure out what was really behind Amanda's fathers attitude toward her. The story was at a good pace and I love the patience of Drew. He gave Amanda the space when she needed it and was there to comfort her at the right time. Despite all that Amanda went throught she was a very strong woman. I was happy that she strived to do her best despite the unloving childhood she was rainsed in.

There were a lot of secrets in both families. The story line was well written.

Although I like False Impressions better this is a very good read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent! 6 May 2000
By B. J. Woodbury - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I have read all books ever written by Marilyn Tyner. This one meets, to the standard of her writing I have come accustomed to enjoying.

Here is a story about family secrets, betrayal, lies and the power of love. The title of this book definitely meets up to the standard of the written plot. Amada Reynolds has been living in an abusive home and finds herself getting married to Drew Connors to escape her father but finds she gets more than she bargained. To not give away too many clues of this story, which is a must read, the author has done an outstanding job. Ms Tyner developes this story well, character assessment are good, story moves at an easy pace for all to read, you feel yourself being right in the story yourself. You feel the love and patience that Drew gives Amanda. Of course, no story with a married couple would not be complete without the "hated mother-in-law" well read this book and see how she gets transformed. Enjoy solving the mystery behind the family secrets as each page brings you closer to the truth. Thanks, Ms Tyner for giving us such an interesting book. Looking forward to your next book.

Check out some of my other favorite books published by this author: False Impression, Step by Step and Secrets. All three of these are very good books to read.
