This book is a concise, straightforward and practical guide to nailing that film audition from the point of view of an experienced casting director who wants you to get the job. I loved it, and will definitely keep going back to it for a long time to come. Nancy Bishops style is refreshingly to the point with practical exercises and onset anecdotes. She covers everything you can think to ask including preparation, scripts and working with the camera, amongst others. She even shares the much guarded secret of what casting directors are actually looking for. Highly recommended.

Nancy Bishop's 'The Casting Couch' offers a down-to-earth, clear, no frills guide to the whole casting process. Not only does Nancy give invaluable, positive guidance on how to approach castings but also advice on how to market oneself as an actor in this norotiously competitive business. For me it was a real wake-up call as to the increasing dominance of the web in the casting process. She gives insighful and practical hints and tips on how to become more noticable on the web and emphasises the necessity of this. Every subject is backed up by personal anecdotes, comments or quotes from other well known actors and casting directors. The book is written in bite size chunks which you can dip into whenever you are in need of encouragement in any particular area of the casting process. I, personally feel much better equipped as an actor having read this book and am truly grateful to Nancy for the ideas it has given me on how to best to approach my career.

This is a fascinating book, even for non-actors.
There's many excellent tips on getting THAT role and how to rehearse and work at the casting. The tips on marketing oneself as an actor are highly relevant and although at times they are common sense, how many times does common sense go out of the window?
It is a book that should be an essential purchase for any would-be actor/actress out there and could become a standard work. There are excellent anecdotes in there too and you'll refer to this highly readable book again and again.
A little more proof reading could have been useful, but that's one for the publisher, not the author to address in their next edition.
There will surely be many for a book that could make a great difference to your career.
Excellent stuff!

At last a book that makes sense of the casting process. Absolutely fantastic and is littered with Nancy humour which makes it so much more personal than many of the books on the shelves. If you are a skint and only have the cash to buy one casting/acting book, GET THIS ONE. I should know, I'm an actor myself and this book is just great.
