It must be hard to write a book that justifies such a great horse - but this does. It is full of useful information that you won't find anywhere else, lots of colour pictures showing "Big Red" in his stables, and lots of quotes from his owner, groom, trainer etc. Unfortunately I wasn't born when Big Red raced, however this book makes me feel like I was.
Did you know that when he first started training he was a very fat, slow horse that was always 5 or 6 lengths behind his stablemates, and was nicknamed "Ol' Hoppalong." This book gives a great insight into how he progressed into the horse he did, and goes into detail his battles with Sham.
The book goes through his career step by step, ranging from his birth and how he was as a foal, right to his triple crown year in 1973 and information about the horses he has sired.
I loved this book and is a great book to own. The hardback cover looks brilliant and the pages are of very high quality paper, allowing the photos to gleam. The book is more a lot more than just statistics and commentaries of his races. It allows you to understand the horse, his character and his personallity. I Can't recommend it enough.
