Product Description

Secret Weapons Over Normandy presents a dynamic, deeply engaging story-driven flight action experience that puts players in control of authentic World War II aircraft and challenges them to undertake the war's most dangerous missions.

Through more than 30 exhilarating air-to-air and air-to-ground World War II missions, players engage in dogfights over the turbulent skies of 15 unique combat theatres. The game follows a historically accurate timeline of key conflicts, ranging from the dramatic evacuation of Dunkirk to the Battle of Britain, Operation Sea Lion (Germany's daring planned invasion of England), the pivotal Battle of Midway and the war's most brutal engagement, the D-Day invasion.

The player is a member of a secret squadron of elite pilots and can take to the skies in more than 20 realistically modelled fighters and bombers. Among these are the twin-engined P-38 Lightning, the P-51 Mustang (one of the fastest piston-driven fighters of the era), the dangerously unstable Me 163 Komet rocket plane and the Me 262 turbo jet fighter (the first-ever jet fighter in combat). The player can even man the guns of the B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bomber.

The PlayStation 2 and Xbox versions of Secret Weapons Over Normandy offer single and multi-player cooperative modes. The PC version includes a mission builder that will allow players to create their own World War II experience.

Review

"Action packed and utterly addictive... one of the neatest arcade flight sims around. Heartily recommended." -- GamesMaster Magazine

"Sure, the controls are simple, but who cares when dogfights over the English Channel are this much fun. 82%." -- Play Magazine

"Utterly satisfying and totally captivating. 8/10." -- Edge Magazine

5.0 out of 5 stars AT LAST,ORIGINALITY 16 Dec 2003
Platform for Display:PlayStation2
This game is superb.Although you do not play inside the cockpit, you retain the arcade type feel that will keep you going back for more.
If,like me, you are a fan of anything to do with WW2 and you want something entirely different to the 1st person shooters then this is definately the game for you.
The controls are very easy to grasp and challenges in between missions will get you prepared for the following missions that lie ahead ( ALL 30 OF THEM!!!!).There is a real sense of belonging to the squadron which is increased by the ability to issue wing commands via your controler. The missions themselves vary from dogfights to ground & sea targets, you even get to use an AA gun from the ground to shoot down stuka's and the likes, the unlocking of a vast amount of authentic Aircraft, historical films and weaponry upgrades give a satisfactory award for a job well done.
The Graphics are also excellent, ground targets are very clear and the planes look superb, manual landing adds to the realism and you can hear German and Japenese pilots through your radio system.
Surround sound is great, with brilliant background music to give you that film feel, gun sounds, explosions and pilot chatter are all very clear with the added(rather sickly) delight of hearing an enemy pilot scream in anguish as he sinks to the ground(although alot manage to parachute out).
You can view your aircraft from the side, rear and top down, all have their uses in different missions. If you are being attacked from behind then a quick press on the controller allows you to see whats going on and therefore take evasive action.
All in all this is a magnificent attempt at recreating WW2 in the air,the difficulties vary and it will take you a long time to complete(I am on mission 7 after around 12 hours of gameplay)
unlike MOH Rising Sun which is completley rubbish in comparison to this. BUY IT AND YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!!!!!!!!!

Very enjoyable game. Not too easy but not impossible either. Took me about 20 hours to complete and the great thing is that I can now do it all again in another plane without becoming bored.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Jolly old jaunt wot wot 5 Feb 2004

First things first, - this is a very decent game, managing to be both arcadey and flight sim rolled into one. Iv'e played games for over 20 years now and have become bored lately with the same old crap that gets churned out by games companies looking for a fast buck, but this game is like a breath of fresh air. Recreate faithfully the battle of britain as you get to fly 26 planes with the option of upgrading each aircraft's capabilities. The learning curve, playability and plot is progressive and compelling enough to be addictive, and the feeling of being in a historical dogfight is genuinely realistic.
Upon completion (this did only take me 3 days-beware) you get the chance to fly the x-wing and tie fighters against stukas, spitfires and messerschmits etc.
I heartily recommend this game, you will certainly not be dissapointed with this purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Escapism 30 Jan 2004
By A Customer

Have always thought how great it would be to have a game where you go through the war as an imaginary pilot. Well here it is.
I haven't played a flight sim for many years and they have now got over the old problem of never having your enemy in view and spending the whole time turning towards them. Basically you press a button and it takes you outside and shows your plane and the target in the same shot.
Flak, bale outs, it's all there. Foes sometimes disintegrate in midair with frightening realisim. Have just finished using a Lightning to fend off a Japanese torpedo plane attack on a US fleet. It was just like the old war footage.
When you are bombing land targets it seems about as hard as it would be in real life, before smart bombs.
Gripes: Few. It is too easy to shoot down an enemy, particularly when you are an AA gunner. You can only save to the start of a mission, checkpoints are only useable whilst the PS2 is switched on.
If you spent your childhood making Airfix models of WW2 aircraft, buy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars very enjoyable original game 8 Jan 2004

I really enjoy playing this game and that what counts when you buy a game. If you are like me and are interested in World War 2 aviation then you will like this game.
The presentation is superb right from the beginning. You start off with basic training and then you start the 1st of 30 missions of which i am currently at number 6 and i have been really impressed so far.
The detail on the planes is very good and overall the graphics are good. If you are expecting a flight sim then go back to your pc because this is not a flight sim, nor does it pretend to be. Its arcade style really appeals to me and i cant stop playing this game. The missions are really good, whether shooting down me 109's or bombing destroyer ships you get really involved and the film clips add to the realism.
Overall I really enjoy this game, its nice to play something different on a playstation 2. You can tell that a lot of time has been spent on this game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Secret Weapons Over Normandy 6 Jan 2004

If you enjoy war games such as MOH I think you will enjoy this. It is not a dedicated flight sim but all the better for it. You can choose what planes and weapons to use on missions. These factors can make the same mission feel very different, i.e. Fairy Swordfish V ME262 . I bought it without reading any reviews and I am very pleased and surprised with it.
