5.0 out of 5 stars Wow - what a blast! 2 Sep 2013

Didn't know there were so many different types of nuclear weapons! Maybe just as well the Cold War is over. Keep an eye on the Middle East! Fascinating book, shipped from the US in really quick time. Can't say it makes me feel good, but is very interesting and my current bedtime read. Just thinking of the nuclear capability of the US and Russia makes me all warm and cosy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Eye-Opening and Very Informative 10 Feb 2007
By laz_254 - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This book was excellenty researched and full of unheard of weapons data from both sides of the iron curtain. This book should be the follow-on book to Deep Black (circa 1985 by Clive Burrows?) which talked about some of those weapons in their idea/development phases. This book by Bill Yenne mentioned weapons systems never written about in newspapers. The beginning of the book is a little dry in that it covers the history of spy satellite development with quite a bit of detail, but really nothing new to one who has read other books on the subject. After that it picks up the pace and becomes a treasure find of relatively unknown info on Soviet weapons systems as well as American. I will likely read this book again because I found it so full of historical (concise) and technical data/detail. Certainly a reference to anyone interested in high tech weapons of the Cold War and beyond. I would have rated 5-stars, but too many grammar/syntax errors.

If it was a weapons system in the cold war, on either side, it is covered here! Very interesting and informative!

2.0 out of 5 stars Misleading and NOT illustrated 1 Aug 2013
By J - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
The description for the book said that it was illustrated so I think there will be pictures in it on every other page NOPE. the cover has pictures and that is about it there are 6 black and white photos on the inside all together of stuff that most people have already seen on TV like the stealth bomber. the reason I don't give this book a 1 star is that at least it talks about the weapons but this is not helpful to truly understand what they look or looked like. in other words this book might as well be a cheap novel.
4.0 out of 5 stars Still in the middle of reading it 2 April 2013

First understand that this is a paperback book and not a coffee table book. Most books in this category are your usual large table top glossy paged books. This is the size of your standard small novel. The author does a good job of helping you understand the political environment of the times before diving into the subject matter. He manages to take information that has been repeated a thousand times and still make it interesting. Which is not a back handed compliment at all but a sign of his abilities.
