Review

'Abbie's book is a testimony to the goodness of God and a life desiring to follow Him.' Helena Wilkinson

Product Description

From five years old, Abbie didn't know who she was supposed to be. To deal with her lack of identity she turned to self-harm, using it as a form of control. Eventually she began the painstaking process of ceasing her behaviour and discovering her identity in Christ. She was finally able to say that she was free of self-harm. This honest account shows how difficult it is to be a Christian who is struggling, and that healing is something that happens throughout Christian life, as you grow in God.

An honest and revealing insight into the life of a 'self-harmer'. Would recommend this book to anyone who is either struggling with self harm or trying to support somebody who is affected.

3.0 out of 5 stars Only of use to Christians who self-harm, 1 May 2008

This review is from: Secret Scars: One Woman's Story of Overcoming Self-harm (Paperback)
This autobiography tells of Abigail Robson's personal struggles with self-injury and eating disorders, and how she overcame her problems.

A lot of Abbie's experiences are centred around her religious beliefs and relationship with God. For this reason I don't think that it is the sort of book which will appeal to everyone with an interest in autobiographical accounts of self-injury. However, it is well-written and I can see how it might particularly be of use to Christians who are struggling with self-injury and those who care about them.

As with many books there are some descriptions of self-injury which might be triggering for people, but on the whole it is a fairly easy read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A struggle with self-acceptance, 25 Mar 2009
By

This review is from: Secret Scars: One Woman's Story of Overcoming Self-harm (Paperback)
Abigail has written an honest and open account of her struggles with anorexia, bulimia and self-harm. Both people who suffer from or those who support others suffering from these issues will find this book useful.
