By Chris Hall TOP 100 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
In 1997 the Pennsylvanian four-piece rock outfit ‘Live’ released their third album ‘Secret Samadhi’. The release followed their multi-million selling album “Throwing Copper”. The group have again produced a finely crafted, well written, creative and mature rock album packed with a diverse range of styles and techniques.

Including the usual emotional and, in places, spiritual, rock tracks, this album was another firm step in the direction the band have been moving in. With such tracks as “Lakini’s Juice” which delivers a broken, chunky riff that constructs the main backbone of the track, to the haunting and deeply atmospheric “Gas Hed Goes West,” the album is as diverse and moving as anything they have done before. If you liked the album “Throwing Copper,” then this album is in much the same vein. Twelve proficiently performed and well-written tracks that deliver a rare depth of emotion.

A very good follow-up album to Throwing Copper. Some very powerful tracks open the CD, Rattlesnake in particular. Follow this with some mellow tracks like Turn My Head, which will stick in your mind, and finish off with the strange, like Gas Head Goes West. All-in-all a very good mix on a single album.

This Album needs more than one listen to be appreciated and after three or four goes it'll stay in your CD player for some time.

HEY, JUST BUY IT! 14 Jun 2000

I have a rather eclectic taste in music, from Seal to Nine Inch Nails, but I just love this band! Their albums just get better and better. Each song is brilliant in it's own right, with Insommnia being my particular favourite from this album. Live have been accused of being formulaic - they do have an unmistakeable style, but when every song is a masterpiece, who cares! Not only that, but the lead singer has one of the most fantastic and evocative voices I have ever heard. You may not get into it on the first play, but it is a real 'grower' and the more you listen, the more you'll get out of it.
