5.0 out of 5 stars a harrowing account, 25 April 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: The Secret Hunters (Paperback)
as someone with a limited knowledge of the treatment of jews in the third reich i admit that this proved to be a harrowing tale. The book is superbly written and obviously brilliantly researched.Mr Fiennes pulls no punches and at times is quite graphic in the descriptions of the attrocities carried out both in Europe and also in Rwanda. My age and religion mean that i have not much knowledge of the second world war and activities of the Nazi's but after reading the account of Derek Jacobs i retain both a feeling of revulsion at the treatment of human beings by others and utter frustration at the fact that so many of the perpetrators remained relatively unpunished. This book will stay in my memory for a very long time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Powerful and gripping tale based on fact., 2 Jan 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: The Secret Hunters (Hardcover)
A chance discovery by Fiennes himself has lead to him writing a hugely moving account of the depravity that the Nazis sank to intertwined with the unravelling past of a mystery aid worker. Fiennes almost never got to write this book due to being too busyand forgetfulness. It has had a deep lasting impression on me. Despite my frequent readings of things military and historical this book has opened my eyes still further. There are many unexpected twists and turns which make it such a gripping read . At times there is so much anger welling up that you have to read on to find a steadier piece to hold up on!...

5.0 out of 5 stars Blown Away!!, 23 May 2005
This review is from: The Secret Hunters (Paperback)
I have read the other reviews for this book and agree that the structure was somewhat frustrating at times, particularly how the history only gave way to the story close to the end, however, I was so blown away by what I read that I couldnt care less if he wrote this book back to front and upside down. What an amazing and powerful tale - and thank god it was Sir Ran that discovered this journal and it wasn't left to rot!
