Read it once - never again!,

I started reading this book and found it difficult to put it down. Written in a very easy going, laid back, disassociated-third-party kind of way, it neverless prevented me from getting out of bed, washing my hair or entering my kitchen (not to mention eating an egg [see page 20 of the paperback edition]) for a potentially life threatening period of time. The unbelievable and invisible amount of biology, physics and chemistry that is taking place EVERY SECOND, in a macroscopic and microscopic way, in our houses is illuminating and frightening at the same time. David really explains the invisible world of the everyday in lucid terms that makes us think about our every action. If you like margarine on your toast - don't read this book. If you like brushing your teeth - don't read this book. If you like washing your hair - don't read this book. If, however, you like knowing how the invisible world around you works - read this book. It is a facinating view into what actually happens from when you wake up to when you fall (fitfully) asleep again. Sweet dreams.

I first read this about 20 years ago and thought it was amazing. Reading it again I wasn't disappointed. The more squeamish of you might not like knowing everything that goes on at a microscopic level!

bought this for my husband who has LOVED the book... couldnt put it down..had to tell him to shut up as I didnt want to hear about all the grubbiness and grime in my little home..Im sure he would recomend it to everyone .
