2.0 out of 5 stars Duff info!!, 12 Jan 2009
By Margaret Reed (England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
A good book,BUT it badly falls down when showing hedgehogs being given bread and milk!! Anyone who has even the smallest amount of knowledge about these wonderful creatures, knows you do NOT give a hog bread and milk.It causes severe stomach upsets and can kill them if they are already weak.I am amazed that the RSPB have not checked their facts first.Very disappointing and worrying.

1.0 out of 5 stars Incorrect Information., 12 Jan 2009
Although this book looks good and is packed with wonderful wildlife photographs, the section about Hedgehogs gives incorrect information regarding feeding, suggesting that it is ok to feed hedgehogs with bread and milk, when it is clearly understood by everyone with a keen interest in wildlife that it is certainly NOT FINE to feed bread and milk to hedgehogs as their digestion can not cope with these foods, causing serious digestion problems and even death. This is an 'old fashioned' idea that has NOT been promoted for many, many years.

Why has a modern publication, endorsed by the RSPB and with comments by the BBC, got it so wrong?

5.0 out of 5 stars well written and interesting, 9 Mar 2009
I found this book to be packed with interesting details, enjoyable to read, and pleasantly illustrated. The one point raised by previous reviewers about feeding hedgehogs should not detract from the overall quality of the book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Secret Lives of Garden Wildlife
Informative book on all garden wildlife, nicely illustrated.
Laid out in month order, it covers most of the creatures you would expect to see in that part of the year.
