Secrets Revealed? 17 Oct 2003
Format:Paperback
(
I first came to this book in 1992, trying to satiate my cravings following the end of the tv series twin peaks, to which it is a kind of prequel. a friend lent me it and i was immediately transproted back to that surreal, hypnotic world with the eerie familiarity. the tv series spiralled further out of control the longer it went on and the book does not dissapoint in maintaining the confusion. there are some small indicators and hints as to the evil of the town and the susceptibility of laura, but it certainly is not a full blown expose. anyone who fears the reading the book will shatter the web of deceipt can rest easy and enjoy that uncomfortable feeling all over again. only this time it is in your room, with just a little light beside your bed, before you go to sleep, to dream of one-armed men, talking birds and the like...

I first read this book at 14 (back in the early '90s) when it first came out - I was a die hard Twin Peaks fan at the time, and probably still am. However, a non - fan could be captivated by the mystery that surrounds Laura Palmer. I read the book several times over the years and then the film "Fire Walk with me" appeared. My copy's spine had become somewhat delicate and the diary appeared with a great new cover to tie-in with the film, so that was an excuse to buy another copy - that's how great I found it and the series surrounding it. SO GOOD I BOUGHT IT TWICE! This is how strong my recommendation is!!!

warped yet believable 2 July 2001

Format:Paperback
The first time i read this i was 14 and easily impressionable. The references to sex conveyed my own feelings and anxieties towards the subject, and the pony reference tied in every little girls dream! Bob is the scariest villain since Hannibal and the fear struck me to the core. I don't think i am alone in sleeping with the lights on and the curtains tightly shut for several days afterwards. The two sided personality appeals to all, we all want to have two personalities, preferably one who is uncontrollably wild and carefree. This book captures the descent from childhood to adulthood in an interesting and fun read for all, plus the references to magic and the power to transform and be psychic appeal to us all and tie the story in, making it more than just a normal diary. A thoroughly good read which will make even the most cold hearted of us cry and definately repeatedly readable.
