I'm not actually planning on being a 'camp counselor' for a while yet, but I wanted to read this book to see if I would actually enjoy the job.
I love the way it is in diary form and is an actual account from Lucy's time there.
I bought it at about 11pm last night and only put it down at 3am to get some sleep. Between that time I had some genuine LOLs and produced so many tears I actually had to put it down for 10 minutes to pull myself together. Then I finished it at around 12pm this afternoon, it was just so addictive. It's full of so many shocks and laughs and genuinely some really interesting things about what goes on at camp.
Actually might read it again I enjoyed it so much. You actually feel like you're there with her and the book gives you an account of how you will actually be spending your days at camp.
I think I would have actually given this 4.5 stars, I think it is a bit on the expensive side and I would have liked an account or small chapter at the end of the book on what Lucy thought about everything she did, did she keep in touch with everyone, what her travelling afterwards was like, etc.
On the whole though, this has definitely made my mind up that I want to go when I have got the money!
Definitely read if you are going to be a camp counselor.

When I started reading this book I was considering doing a summer camp in America. I had so many questions and had been looking on loads of different sites. Thing is you never REEEALLY know just what it's like as the websites I was looking at weren't told from a campers perspective. I feel like this book has really painted a picture for me and although everyone's experiences would be different it's the closest thing you can get to knowing what camp is really like before you go/sign up. I thought it was an awesome read and I was totally moved by the ups and downs of Lucy's summer. I am absolutely going to camp now...I hope I end up on the one Lucy went to!!! Anyone considering camp READ THIS!!!! :)

I went to camp in America a few years ago and reading this has brought back all those hilarious memories that I had. I remember feeling the exact same as Lucy when I was just meeting everyone for the first time. It almost felt like I was reading my own journal. Such a good book I will re-read this for years to come! Anyone who has been to camp must read this book too! And those who haven't been you must read it too and then go to camp!!

I'm planning on doing Camp America and this is by far the most useful thing I've read! All the information I was given at camp fairs etc didn't really explain what I'd be doing day to day and I couldn't really picture it, this book has made me feel much more prepared and really excited about going! It's really funny and honest too, loved all the embarrassing bits. If you're planning on going to camp too or not sure if you want to do camp, buy it - you'll find out so much more than you do at the camp fairs/reading online.

This is a must read for anyone considering working at summer camp. Lucy deals with the highs and lows in a funny and thoughtful way and it gives you a real insight into life at summer camp. I actually read this book on a plane and had to work so hard not to laugh out loud.

I purchased this book as I'm thinking about doing Camp America in a few years and this book is a must read for anyone who is thinking of doing anything similar as it gives you a real sense of what to expect. It takes you through the nerves and the awkwardness at the start of camp, when the kids arrive, being a counsellor, the ups, the downs, the goodbyes of camp. It has really made me want to go to camp even more sounds well and truly amazing!

This book is basically a counselor's diary for an American summer camp. It's a must read if you are. Considering doing his or want to know about the experience. It was a fantastic book and I would recommend it to anyone

This was an absolutely great read. I bought the book a few months ago when I found out I had been placed after a recruitment day. I picked it up one afternoon and actually couldn't put it down. I read the whole thing in an afternoon, and it just made me super-excited about going to Camp this summer! :)
I think the fact the book is actually taken from Lucy's diary from Camp makes it so much better. There's so much truth involved and you read about everything right from the really hard days right down to everything that went on between counselors! The honesty makes it such a great read.
For under £4 it's an amazing price too, would definitely recommend for anyone looking to go to summer camp!
