Review
Praise for 'The Family Tree': 'Delinsky's writing is fluid and makes for a hard-to-put down book as she deftly blends tense family drama with heavy political issues' Glamour '...a sensitive exploration of the prejudices that many hold but few express...a page turner that asks serious questions about America's relationship with its past' The Times 'Fans of Jodi Picoult will love this...a poignant family story' Daily Express 'A really interesting and sometimes harrowing tale that makes compelling reading.' Sun Praise for 'The Family Tree': 'Delinsky writes with insight about complex family matters, and here adds thought-provoking concerns about race in America in a novel that will stir debate and inspire self-examination.' Booklist 'Delinsky smoothly challenges characters and readers alike to confront their hidden hypocrises (while getting) the political and personal dynamics just right.' Publishers Weekly 'Delinsky admirably allows her characters to acknowledge and correct their biases. Fail-safe delivery of an issues-packed story.' Nora Roberts, author of 'Valley of Silence Praise for Barbara Delinsky: 'Delinsky delves deeper into the human heart and spirit with each new novel' The Inquirer 'Delinsky excels at!insightful portrayal[s] of captivating people facing challenges both ordinary and dramatic' Booklist

Product Description
One lie sends a family into turmoil in a heart-rending new novel from a worldwide bestselling author, perfect for fans of Jodi Picoult When Deborah Monroe's car hits and kills a man on a deserted road on a dark and rainy night, questions of who is to blame muddy the already complicated life of a woman who is newly divorced and struggling with emotions that are rampant in a house with two vulnerable children. Deborah's daughter, 16-year old, Grace, was behind the wheel but, desperate to protect her daughter, Deborah covers for her and takes responsibility for the death of the man. But, when it seems that the victim may or may not have been suicidal, issues of guilt and responsibility, truth and honesty, are all brought into sharp focus.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very well written, gripped from first page, 17 Sep 2008
By M. Block "ChelleBlock" (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I picked this up in my local book shop as I was intrigued by the front cover, I am so pleased I bought it, as it was different to what I normally read, and I was hooked from the first page, I read this first half in a day.

The story is set in a very small town where everyone knows each other, and Deborah is the local GP. She and her daughter have a car crash and hit a man. Deborah on the spur of the moment covers up that her daughter was driving and the book is about the fallout of that, and her recent divorce.

I recommend this book, if you enjoy Jodi Piccolt you would probably enjoy this author too.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad , 3 Aug 2008
This is not my usual type of book at all, I usually go for thrillers, but needing a change from murder and violence, I thought I'd try this. It's well written, light and enjoyable enough, but not really my cup of tea to be honest, it all seems a bit bland and uneventful to me, but that's probably just because I'm used to reading crime novels.
If you like easy to read family stories you will probably enjoy this, as it isn't a bad book. I read it in a day.

3.0 out of 5 stars It was an OK read, 9 April 2009
By Selly (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
A book about how one lie, (or escaping the truth) can then form a web of lies to cover the first one, and in the end discovering that it was all for nothing. Deborah, the local doctor, and her daughter, drive home one night and suddenly crash into the school teacher. Whilst law suits are threatening Deborah by the histerical teacher's wife, she makes friendship and some slight spark with the teacher's brother.

I read it on the basis on some reveiws I read that Barbara was somewhat in the style as Jodi Picoult, this was clarified to me with the praises on the book making that same connection. But unfortunately I felt I never got to know the characters in this book and soon forgot about them as the ending was too .... 'happily ever after' for my liking, but this is just an opinion of course.

However I will give this a solid 3 star rating, simply because it was easy to read, and perhaps taking it as a separate point of veiw, maybe we need something that ends "happily ever after" for the pure feel of completion in the mind.
