I was doing some tidying up when I found my copy of this book, which drew a smile and demanded a review. I used the book last year on a birthday trip to Ams. I have visited the city many times over the years. This little book is excellent for those who love the city, pointing out places and things that natives are likely to know, but which add detail to the tapestry a frequent visitor retains. I would recommend it for visitors who love to stroll through the little streets of this lovely city. It was worth the investment for directing me to the Pinto house alone. Not really for the first timer, but wonderful for those who view Amsterdam with affection.

Very much for those interested in exploring the 'fine-detail' or other side of Amsterdam, away from the obvious touristy things.

A Great Gift for People Moving There (and to read it yourself first!) 21 Mar. 2012

I bought this as a house-warming gift for some friends I was going to visit (and stay with) and they had already lived there for three months prior and totally didn't know about 90% of the places in the book. Plus, it's a great read for the plane over and I went to several of the "hidden gardens" that they listed and I learned a lot, too.
A lot of pictures of doorways 28 Nov. 2012

Didn't find a single thing to look that I wouldn't have wandered by on my own -and certainly nothing that I'd go out of my way to see. Lot's of fine old bars like the WildShotz don't even get a look in. If you are a history fan, worth a look, but the average tourist will just end up scratching their head.
